    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

plug wires arcing need help

coils seem to be working fine, but the crappy plug wires are well....crappy. i pulled the boots apart and re-attached them the best you can. being that the ends are only threaded into the core they are just not great. when i grab all the boots i get shocked which means all the spark is not making it to the plug itself. the boot on number 2 gets super hot so i know that one is the worse conductor in the bunch. is there a way to fix these since they are attached directly into the coils or am i just better off getting new coils and wires? also i know you can use the accel coils but do you know which set i should use for a gs 750L? thanks.
 
The caps break down after they get old. Cut back about 1/2" of wire, Separate the strands with a sharp awl or knife ( so the screw doesn't slide to the side of the wire) and screw in the new caps. Throw the old garbage away. Z1 Enterprises has a good selection. They also have a wire splicer for new wires on old coils. http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=427

What thes guys say is true, You can actually feel the heat on the main circuit in your fusebox when caps are bad. Its an increased resistance that is not good for anything or anyone. They can be broken down and cleaned but its not worth the bother buy new plugs and prepare to be amazed.
 
The plug wires on molded in coils can be replaced but you might not find the effort worthwhile.

The process:
1. cut the plug wires off two inches from the coil.
2. strip insulation back to 1/2 inch from coil.
3. buy a new VW distrubutor cap.
4. section out the four plug wire cups from the cap.
5. wrap the bare wire from the coil around the inside post of the cup.
6. slather up the coil wire and underside of the cup with epoxy.
7 let it dry and then slather it up again to build strengh.

You now have coils with replacable plug wires.
 
If the wires are original simply replace them. If you have the type of coils with wires molded in, NGK sells splices to remedy this.
