If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

David, you are learning the hard way that short cuts are long cuts.

Do the carbs properly.

Adjust the valves before they burn up and damage the engine.

You may as well fix the charging system wiring before that goes bad too.

Lots to do before you have a reliable bike.

Check the Newbie Mistakes thread please... Not trying to put you down, rather help.

the thing that gets me is that the bike has run without a hitch for 10k this problem just happened all of the sudden

At Boulevard Suzuki - 37 PLUG 13357-44080 4 $2.60

Go back up to the top and do two things please. First go read up on Basscliff's information as he gives you ALOT of useful and necessary stuff in the Read Me section. One of your biggest tools to use outside of his site and actual hardware are the different parts fiches found on many dealer websites.

Second; put your bike information in your signature and your location in your profile. You can do both of these under the User CP.

You've owned it for that long or you just bought it with that much on it? How long did it sit before you drove it last?

If you just bought it, you CANNOT trust what the PO told you as they lie to sell the bike. Most times it's the small lie like I just cleaned the carbs; other times, it's the huge lie and your in way over your head because of it.

Slow down and read through the information presented to you like Ed said - Read the Top Ten Newbie mistakes thread. Read the stuff on Basscliff's site he gave you in the mega-welcome. Read through the archives here when searching. Listen to what the pros like Nessism, Steve, and a few others tell you; they will not steer you wrong because everyone of us wants to see you enjoy the bike like it's meant to be.

Ok back story on the bike. The PO's dad uncrated it in 83, rode it till 90, in 90 he sold it to his son(son was in his 40's) son rode it until 97 when he parked it due to health reasons. I was givin the bike by the son, so there were is no reason for him to lie about it. I have pert near doubled the mialage of the bike since I started riding it back in sept. I was riding the bike every day as a commuter, bike sat for about 12 hours before I rode it last. Bike had 12k on it when I got it

Hope the valves aren't all burned. 10k is a long time without a valve adjustment, and who knows if the PO ever did one.

good point, was just looking at the maintenance schedule, would a compression test tell me if I got a burnt valve?

do I need to have the motor cold for 24 hours like on my XR or can I do it sooner?

24h is the recommended wait time on the motor for valve adjustments. You may as well do a compression test while you are waiting to get an idea of what might be happening.

Ok, ive been pouring over this site for a week now, I think I got it figured out but I would like some input for the gurus here. My problem is my bike ran great(81 gs650g only 20k on it), was on a ride and was comming into town doing about 45 in 5th, the bike sputtered some and didnt have the right throttle response. I downshifted and the bike pulled out of it and ran fine, I figured it was time to clean the carbs again because of the rust in my tank, didnt think much of it. I park the bike for about an hour. get back on it and when I start the bike up it has a slight miss, and my friend noticed some fuel dripping out of the airbox plenum, I road for 5 mins with no performance issues until I came to a stop, then it was spitting and sputtering like crazy, and running like it had a dead cylender. So I tore down the carbs, cleaned em, put em back togeather, same. tore carbs down again, re cleaned em, was VERY meticulous this time, there perfect. I bench synced em, (feeler gauge) and still nothing.
This lead me to believe that its a ignition system issue, coils passed ressistance checks, primary and secondary, signal generator passed. but when I did the ignitor test I had no spark fire on either applying the probe or removing the probe. is there any other way to test the ignitor? this was the only test my book gave for it. Any help would be much appreciated because this is my commute ride and the 50mpg is the only thing making my 500 mile a week commute worth it.
"Any help would be much appreciated because this is my commute ride and the 50mpg is the only thing making my 500 mile a week commute worth it."

You are going to have to let me in on your secret. I'm nowhere near 50mpg yet, and I've got a pretty good handle on all of the maintenance issues.

I ran new power to the coils and it fixed the original symptom, now lets assume my valve clearances are within spec, and my carbs are factory fresh. Could my ignitor be to blame? It passed the ressistance test but could it be affected by low voltage too like the coils, and create issues at higher rpms. Because right now thats the only place where things are not right

You titled this post "pulling my hair out/help"- that's what folks here are attempting to do; offering real world advice on matters they know well. You can jump around and wonder/guess what's gone wrong or just find out.
I think you've been lucky getting 10 k , but now the bike is telling you something is wrong. There's a bunch of common problems that need to be addressed - ignore them at your own peril.
