A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Pod filter rejetting 79 425

Hey guys,

I'm rebuilding my GS 425. I don't want to put back in the airbox, so I'm going to use K&N pods. I just replaced the engine with another 425 engine after blowing a piston in my old one. My questions:

1) What are the measurements around the bell housing? (I think that's what it's called, it's where the pods will meet the engine.)

2) What do I need to know about my carbs? I'm about to rebuild them, and I know I'll have to rejet them with the air filter so I was curious about sizes. I also know I'll probably need to richen up my mixture a bit. Any input on how many turns with the new filters?

3) I am actually having trouble finding carb rebuild kits for my specific bike. Is there any solution to this? Can I just buy the jets, gaskets, etc. separate?

Any other advice is appreciated. Unfortunately, I have settled on the pods though. The airbox is not going back on my bike. :)

Me, I'd get this new-to-you engine running right with stock airbox setup-then you have a base to work from before making the leap to podspace.

I don't know how similar the 425 carbs are to the 450, but here is my thread on getting my 450 right with good (K&N) pods and a fairly free breathing custom 2 into 1 pipe:

There is a write up on the 450 carb rebuild somewhere here:

I understand the no airbox thought, the 450 frame seems to be built around the airbox so I assume the 425 is no different.

Having said that, getting it running with the airbox first is probably a good idea, but if you can't just make sure you re-jet properly and don't make it too lean!

Don't get a carb rebuild kit from eBay etc., instead get all your O rings from here:

http://cycleorings.com/

And buy genuine Suzuki float bowl gaskets and choke gaskets.

Try to stick with genuine Mikuni jets if you can from somewhere like Jets R Us or something.

Just my 2c...
