Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

My bike came with pod filters but two of them were missing. I would assume the carb was already rejetted for pod filters. I wish I could find an airbox but I cant plus I dont wanna pull the carb apart. So I measured the OD of the carb neck and its 2 1/8in. Any idea what size Pods I need and also what carb is on this bike? (80 GS1000 L)

Hi,

Just go to K&N's website or APE's website and look up the filters for your application. Easy peazy. Stay away from cheap EMGO filters.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Don't assume anybody did anything right. If that bike has been off the road for any appreciable amount of time you are going to have to rebuild the carbs. You will never know what has or has not been done if you don't and in the end a rebuild is almost always necessary.

I did actually take the carbs to a local bike shop and had them disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. The guy at the shop also suggested the factory airbox and gave me the name of a local junkyard. I asked him if the carbs looked factory and he said someone has screwed around with them but the needles looked possibly stock.

what does 2 1/8 convert to in mm? Also the APE website filters look like they are oval shaped and my carb outlets are round? Is that just a universal pic they use?

Hi,

The pod filters are oval while the fitting is round.

ok thanks. 2 in is 50mm so I would assume i need the 54mm pods.

And if the mechanic

And if the mechanic

said that they look like stock components in the carbs, you're gonna need to rejet the carbs. Do a search for rejet carbs. Or check out Bassclif's mega welcome for links to tutorials. Like another poster said, you never know what someone else did!

Eh...I'd say just get a Dynojet kit for it. Takes out most of the guess work.

fitting pods,,,,

fitting pods,,,,

if your thinking of fitting pods ,,,,,,its well worth going too mikesxs,,,,, and looking at his pods i purchased a set of great pods ,,, they are made by the same mob that make the well known brand and they work well at a fraction of the cost,,,,, he,s in florida,,, regards oldgrumpy :D

well i think im going to order the APE pods and hope i already have a dynojet kit in there. It had pods on it when i got it so there is a good chance pluse i have a vance & hynes exhaust. I would think the bike would run real bad if it didnt have the kit. If it runs crappy when i put the new pods on ill order the kit.

When I got my bike back someone was nice enough to replace my stock airbox with 4 single pod style filters , what a pain, Eventually found i had to wrap the filters halfway with electrical tape to change the airflow for due to lack of an airbox, stock jetting and aftermarket filters are a bad combo .. but we made it happen !!!

25.4mm = 1", so 54mm is correct. Its harder to convert furlongs per fortnight into miles per hour.

If the carb needles are stock, you are not properly jetted. It is amazing how common it is for an owner to put on pods and/or a pipe without properly jetting the bike. My nephew is currently riding a too lean Virago that backfires all the time. He argues that the backfiring is a sefety feature.

ok thanks. 2 in is 50mm so I would assume i need the 54mm pods.

It's silly to guess on the jetting. Pull the carbs and check everything properly. The engine can burn up if it's jetted too lean.

Your hesitance to pull the carbs makes me wonder if you have neglected other critical maintenance such as adjusting the valves.

I still have the carbs off the bike so I am going to open them. How can I check to see if there is a dynojet kit in them. Sorry Nessism this is my first bike and and I'm going through a learning process right now. I have the bike pretty well torn down and dont wanna get ahead of myself with taking things apart. I am slowly putting it back together due to financial issues right now. I will adjust valves when I get the tank cleaned and lined.
