A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I wouldn't waste any time or money on doing pods or alternate carbs on a 550 myself.
What is their to gain anyway? Looks?

i have a lot of tail chasing to do already, the last owner never even did a oil change. i was lucky it was solidified oil every where ans just trying to get evetything cool and up to par seems to be the best route thus far. but carbs are my biggest intimidating part, that and fork oil. im a 22 year old kid with drrams pf a cool good running bike so i ask dumb questions often just to see if it is even worth it. obviously putting a rad decal on thr box is worth more then pods

And I am glad you ask the questions, there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking questions......

you can then take all the answers, and you will get a clear picture, well most of the time, on what will work, what can be done, how to do it, and so on.....

keep on asking, it's the best way to gain knowledge, and that is never a waste.....

im a customizer,i want MY bike but i wont sacrifice performance and maybe a engine for looks. ill stick with an ugly air box and just jazz it up a bit with some decals or paint or something. the bike was already running at a bad mix of fuel/air im hoping that the last owner didnt reck it too much.

but being on the subject of carbs what is the diaphragm like, will it shrink or if left sealed till the end could it be safe? someone told me to use a airsole silicon to help

? im just wondering my friend is also doing a harlry project and said he messed up a diaphragm by letting it sit out,it shrunk and now wont fit

A friend of mine rode a 80 GS1100E with a K&N filter unoiled with out the air box cover on it, he just placed a shop rag over the air cleaner and ran it like that. Pretty dumb if you ask me. The engineers spend alot of time on the air system on a bike to make sure it performs like it should. Me I would just leave the stock system on and use a K&N filter and not have to go through a lot of hassles of figuring out the rejetting. Even K&N once said in a article "even adding our filters on a bike well not necessary make it run any better because of the limitations on motorcycle airboxes, most of the time they are engineered to flow air pretty dang good as it is." I paraphrased some of that lol. When I added the K&N and pipe on my bike, all I needed was 3 steps up on the main jet nothing more.

Hi,

There is a diaphragm in each one of your four carbs. I would suggest reading through the carb cleaning tutorials so that you can gain some insight into the carburetor assemblies.

Thank you for your indulgence,
