    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pods & side covers?

Do pods generally interfere with the side covers? I just ordered a set of APE 005-121 for my 1100EZ.

I've seen a few pics of my model with pods, but none were wearing their side covers.

I also remember having to cut away part of my Z1 covers, something I won't do to my Suzi.

Also, are there any symptoms of an overly lean or rich setting besides less-than-maximum power?

With pods, you WILL have to re-jet the carbs. If you don't, you will be running lean, and lean is HOT. Hot is dangerous for your engine.

As far as pods and side covers are concerned, I can't tell you whether it will fit or not, but the decision whether to use side covers will depend partly on whether they will fit and partly on the owner's intent. Some owners want to "lighten the look" of the bike by removing anything that appears solid in the middle of the bike, so they remove the covers, too. THAT part is personal choice, but the re-jetting is mandatory.

The problem with the 82-83 side covers is not pods, they fit just fine. It is the tabs. They tend to break off very easily, a known issue. Then the sidecovers are retired or even fall off while riding.
 
T ake some duct tape and make a bottom and side dam out of it in the basic shape of the tab and pour it full of DEVCON PLASTIC WELD. Let it sit over night and sand and shape to fit. Use a thin dremel wheel to recut the slot the tabs hang on.

For the post types that slip into a gromet, a small cardboard tube ( think M80 size ) works for the pour. Once its cured, soak the cardboard in water and it will peel off pretty decently. Sand and reshape the resulting post.
 
There are threads here on tab repair that involve different approaches and materials. On my 1150 I've used JB weld on the back of the side panels to stop an advancing crack. I also put a dab of grease on the posts to ease installation / removal.
