    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Alright my dad got the carbs back from wgcarbs.com and the bike is running like a raped ape according to my dad (thanks a ton George)

Anyway after the test ride complete with sweet 5gal gas can gas tank setup (the tank and side covers are in for paint) my dad said that there were some wires on either the reg/rectifier that were melted and the unit was extremley hot to the touch. He can't figure out wich one it is here is his description:

It has the following wires sticking out of it:

red
yellow
white w/red stripe
white w/blue stripe

it is sticking out and is the size and shape of a bar of soap and is just to the right of the solenoid.

Can anyone tell me what this is??

Sounds like a reg/rect to me... Using search for regulator you'd find those wires (+black) typicaly come out of them. Would need year, model, etc. to help anymore (but info is prob around - find it using search).

BTW, I'm holding one in my hand in a pic on my "Thanks for all the Honda reg in GS info" thread...
 
It's the Rectifier. If that's all the wires it has, then you have a separate regulator down on the lower left with 2 wires, black & yellow (I think, maybe black & white) and the rectifier which you mentioned. This site has a ton of information on the somewhat unreliable GS Regulator/Rectifier (RR) circuits. See "The Stator Papers' on this site. Mine seemed to be working OK, but I bought an Electrex combined RR just so I won't have to buy a $140 alternator stator later, and for peace of mind.

If you are burning wires and the rectifier is glowing, first thing to do is get a good battery in there - if your battery is real old, that could easily be the problem right there. After that - read The Stator Papers.

And if you want real peace of mind and can afford it, go buy an Electrex. They are about $115 list, but you can sometimes find them cheaper on EBay - new ones. I recently got one for $26, but I got lucky.

Thanks for all the replies guys yeah it has a seperate reg and rectifier. The other module there has the other wires sticking out of it.
