Hi all. Can anybody recommend a powdercoater in the Chicago area. The only guy I found wanted $500 to do my frame and swingarm. $500 can buy a lot of rattle cans.

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

its not gonna be cheap, but its worth every penny. I had a hook up and still cost me 300 for bout the same amount of work.

$500 seems a bit much. I had my frame, swingarm, triple tree (upper and lower), side stand, center stand, turn signal brackets and rear brake stay done for $425. I'd say keep looking. Maybe Baltimore prices are just lower but I'd check with a couple of other places.

I doubt you'll get much under $400 for any large pieces like a frame and swingarm. Both my SRX600 (frame swingarm triples forklegs + dozen minor bits) and R1 (frame swingarm triples rearsets + dozen minor bits) cost me about $400 apiece if I recall correctly. (Bay area, california)
You're paying mostly for the prep work, and about a $100 (roughly) for a single color in one batch.

How much is alot less? I live fairly close (well, only one state away). And I might want to get my wheels powdercoated.

Any one have any experience with this system. Kind of interesting. I have an oven you can put 3 whole bikes in.

A friend of mine has used that system before. Not a bad looking option provided you do your prep work. It is not as durable as professional powdercoating though.

I have used a small powder coating gun, works just fine. The only differance between doing it with this gun as opposed to a pro, is a pro can recollect the unused dust, you cant. As for the durability, if you use the same powder, cook it right, it is just as good only cheaper. Fleabay has all the powder you could ever want.
Just for referance, a friend of mine cooks his powder with a heat lamp he "borrowed from McDonalds" when he worked there. It does a good job on small stuff.
I say get one and go for it.

Its just a big walk in oven to thermoform plastic airplane windows. For the longest time Cee-Baily has been a Airplane Windshield competitor of mine and now it looks like they are big time MC window manufactures.

Hmmm, interesting Dave. Where are you at? I've got a old Scorpion snowmobile chassis I've been wanting to powdercoat for years now. That Sears unit looks interesting. I think you should get into powdercoating on the side. Hint, Hint!:idea: :idea:

TRY this guy , He was the lowest price guy I could find and he's EZ to get to
out side of Lockport IL. He did a kick ass job on my frame and wheels and he will do little parts that most guys will not do
and he is VARY FAIR WITH HIS PRICES

my 82 gs1100 looked like crap , so I riped it down to the bone and rebuild the hole bike its about done and powder coat is the only way to go
it was cheeper to coat then to paint all the parts I had
plus it is way stronger than paint

I just wanted to get back on this issue. Complete Powder Coating was recommended to me by Robert G. I just got my parts back and they nothing less than stunning. Dave was very helpful and he got it done three days earlier than he promised. I won't say what it ended up costing me other than to say that it was well under what I was prepared to pay. If you live in the Chicago area, I can't recommend him highly enough. He has a great selection of colors available and he is generally a good guy to deal with.
