A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ok ive done some more adjusting. she wont get up and go but if you keep givving her gas she eventually kicks in and takes off. what can be causing this problem. carbs have been dipped and new o-rings installed.

What are you running for a filter(s)?
Where are the floats set?
It sounds like you're having trouble switching from the pilot circuits to the mains. Needle height set correctly?

im running regular stock air filter and its new. me and steve were messing with the floats and we had to set them at about 25mm. the specs say 22.4mm but that wasnt allowing them to shut off the flow of gas. and which needle heighth are you refering to?

The jet needles that are raised by the diaphragm. They can be moves (notched models) or shimed up using small washers. It sounds like the stumble is in the mid-high range transition.

Do you have the paper filter or foam?

oh those. mine are the ones that are stuck in place. you have to push them down in there. im running a foam filter lightly oiled.

Where do you have the air-mix screws set? All clamps tight? What happens when you feel the "bogging" if you apply a little choke?

i got them set at about 1 1/4 turns out. havent tried giving any choke. i'll have to go try that to see what happens.

i'll adjust them out more then. this thing has some sweet power when she wants to get up and go. cant wait till i get her evened out.

Not sure on the 450 but for the 550+ ( I assume that they should be close) 2-1/4 - 2 1/2 out from lightly seated is a good starting point.

yeah i just did another half turn and it was much better. still got a few hick-ups though. i'll go a little more out to see if it goes away.

well i went to 2 1/2 down to 2 1/4 now im at 2. she seems to be running better but with a slight hessatation. i think my throttle cble might be bad. when i come to stops it is wanting to stay idling high and i have to let out on the clutch a bit and it goes down. could a bad cable be part of my hessatation problem?

for 1980+ CV carbs, there is one adjustment, top/front of carb, and out is richer.

Kparkfan, when you synched the carbs, did you plug the vacuum line?

yeah i plugged it. I think that me being a rookie at syncing and having some crappy gauges to do it with, that i might be a little off. does having a bad throttle cable make it have any hesitation?

i wouldnt think so being that if its connected its going to pull regardless. returning on the other hand it could easily hang up

also thanks for clearing that up... maybe thats why i couldnt get the bike to tune right!!!

it's got electronic ignition right? Do those models have an atu(automatic timing unit)? Mine was hanging up and giving me fits.

A bad sync doesn't help but from what your explaining...it still seems like a mixture issue. Too much air, is also indicated by your hanging idle though your cable could be hanging up...the return spring on the throttle shaft should be more than enough to return it to an idle.

Have you used the highest possible idle method to set the mixture screws yet? This works VERY well and as you have replaced the intake o-rings, you should have the bike ready for the final tune.

Replace the float needles. Sounds like the springs are worn. This will make it a PITA to set the correct float level.
