DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Problems fitting a 4 into one pipe

Well with the igniter interchange done on the 550, I am anxious to fire up. While the engine is in the frame the pipes are off and the bike is on a bike lift.

Last night I attempted to bolt the pipes on only to find out that they seem to run under the frame. I don't know the brand and it doesn't really matter but it is a problem since I can't install them with the lift in position. To further complicate things, there is no centerstand ( likely as it fouls the pipe) and the wheels and forks are off.

After looking at this for hours I'm at a loss how to hold it up while I attach the pipe. I guess I could put the forks and wheels back on but I'd prefer not to at this point.

Any suggestions guys?

Cheers,
Spyug

What about using one of those stands for the rear wheel? Or, how does the pipe fit around the side stand?

Use jack stands. One on the frame on each side of the engine and one on each leg of the swinger.

Nylon slings and either a come along or engine hoist to lift it:

Thanks guys. No engine lifter and no exposed ceiling beams to get a comealong attached so jack stands it might have to be.That still might be difficult as the pipe looks like it is very close to the right hand frame rail, however.

I think I might need to ponder it abit more this afternoon (long weekend and I'm going to play hooky) but won't be able to do anything until tomorrow when my buddy turns up.

I'll let you know what I come up with.

Cheers,
Spyug

Nothing I can get to conveniently but I think I might have an idea. I'm thinking a piece of angle iron across the bottom of the steering head (and tied to it) resting on two saw horses at the front and two jack stands at the pivot point for the swingarm.

I'll take some pics if that makes sense and gives me the room I need.

Thing about these old basket cases is there is always something to fiddle with. Get one thing sorted and a couple more pop up. But I'm having fun right?

We'll see how it turns out.
Cheers all,
spyug

Oh and Happy 2-4 weekend to all my Canuck buddies!
