I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Sounds like some good progress!

If you had the glass fuse holder in there still, definitely ditch it. Those things are an electrical failure waiting to happen...

Can't help you on the "net" though, my carbs have nothing like that...

Yeah I definitely have those fuel ring "net" looking things too. One of mine wasn't looking the greatest when I pulled it out. A little bent but I straightened it up.

I think they help in mixing the fuel and air. Not 100% sure and I could be dead wrong, but that would be my guess.

Thanks for the heads up on the chain and sprockets btw.

Try cross-referencing the 80-81 GS250T. It has the same engine/carbs/and most everything else. That is how I have been able to find a lot of the stuff for mine.

That being said, mine is a little bit more of a hodge podge and less shiny than yours :D You seem to be going more for keeping it all original so you may not want to put GS250 stuff in.

Removed the carbs from the dip, cleaned them and started to reassemble.

I actually ordered the o rings a few days ago.... they came in today!

The difference between a new o ring and a 30 year old o ring

Now I'm waiting for the jets and cv slide springs

Makes sense about the net. I am indeed trying to keep this thing stock but its getting difficult when most parts are discontinued :(

Well if you ever have ignition problems Pete can help you out. He just helped me with fitting a Dynatek S into mine.

I'm originally a Buckeye!

Cool man were you northern or southern Ohio? I recently came back to the forum. I took a break for a while but I am working on the project again. I read through your thread, it's nice to see someone do something other than what the factory had.

And don't forget Mekanix! I didn't realise you could stick the 250's mechanical advance onto the 300's... makes it real easy now that we know :)

Of course. Mechanix was the key!

I grew up in Piqua.

There's a ton of those fuel 'tees' on ebay right now.

When cleaning the carbs - watch for the tiny bearings under the choke lever. And also for the two tiny o-rings and washers underneath each fuel/air screw. I almost missed them my first time through the carbs.

Yeah the manual mentioned the bearings man they are tiny!

I got it all back together minus new jets and cv slide springs. The float level I set at 21.4mm +/-1mm per the manual.

Parts... many parts hooray for SGP!

IMG_20120620_194036.jpg

Top going left to right... fuel hose, vacuum hose, hose spring. Bottom left to right... fuel hose clips, cv slide springs, 17.5 idle jets, 115 main jets.

Putting on more shiny

Here are the cv springs the old on top the new on bottom. I don't know if it will make much difference but the new springs are notably stiffer...

Carbs back together finally!

Now I need to get them back on...

Nice work!

I gotta say one of the fun things during my rebuild was getting a box from Boulevard in the mail, opening it, and see those red and white SGP labels...

Nice!

I wanted to ask you where you set your idle? I am having a hard time getting mine at the right spot.

The manual says to set it at 1250 RPM but it's all by ear since I don't have a tach...so I try to guess where it should be.

Carburetors are back on!

Carburetors are back on!

Well last night I installed the boots to the engine with new O rings and hex bolts. Re installed the carburetors and put it all back together. 300 fired right up and the engine liked the mixture screws out 2 turns.

I ended up seeking another type of muffler. The fiberglass packed mufflers flow great and do a good job muffling the high pitch sounds but the lower pitch notes from the engine seem to be unimpeded... It is enough to give me a headache riding on the freeway for any length of time. I found the emgo reverse cone dunstall style mufflers that have metal baffles. The sound is much different. The high notes are muffled and the bass notes only come through at idle. Makes 300 sound like an older Japanese motorcycle (which it is )

Here is what it looks like. I haven't taken pictures with them on the bike yet maybe after work today...

Idling has a deep bass tone and a slight "puff puff" sound. Revving in neutral gives a metallic growl. On the road the sound is smooth with the same metallic growl. On the freeway the wind noise over powers the exhaust sound which is exactly what I wanted. I still have to replace the main fuse with an ATO style. I will probably stop after work and pick up a waterproof holder and fuse.

Nice! Where did you pick up the new ones up so quickly?
