A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thanks man, all much needed upgrades for this thing

Nice job on that Dan.. I think I am actually going to cut and weld the bandit stay to keep the caliper parallel with the swingarm although its not really necessary just might look better.

I have full 1/4" of clearance from the B12 stay. With a 130 in the stock set up it was about 1/16", the 130 barely squeezed in. With this set up I am pretty certain you could run a 160 with no issues..:dancing:

Yes I don't think you'll get more than a 150 in the way I've shown. I used some fairly thick plate as I wanted to make sure it didn't twist....

The other way is to cut the ends off & weld to a custom tube. Not sure about the 700 but the 750 stay was a bit shorter than the other GS's so there *might* be room to put an S bend in a stock stay.

Bandit stays are cheap and easy to find, actually the stock caliper works as well with this set up.

Here is the mod recipe

3.5" 1150 rear wheel
150/70/17 Dunlop GT501
98-02 Bandit brake stay
1150 rear caliper ( the stock caliper works also )

Plug and play, no cutting required, however you may want to shorten the stay for cosmetic purposes only

Wow, that looks really nice. I have the same model bike but mine is a long way from looking like that. how bad was it when you got it? Oh and where did you find the four to one header? I bought one from ebay but it is way too big to fit on any 700 i know of.:(

Yeah decent headers are not easy to come by, I actually picked mine up on Ebay a few years ago. I bought the bike non-running for $400 on craigslist and did a medium restore on it. If you need any help with yours let me know I have tons of parts for your bike.

that is great news! I am getting my carbs set up and my valves adjusted right now. I am doing the work myself. When I come across some more missing bits I will let you know. Thank you very much.

Sure, I have a parts bike collecting lots of dust also..:o

I think I have the front end sorted out. With the 1150 triple clamp in place and the 700 forks inserted the only thing left to mod is the front right outer bearing spacer. This should center the calipers and make for a nice stock looking set up for all those purists out there watching this thing come apart. :) The anti-dives are going away as also.

Is it safe for me to assume that these are worthless or a bad design and should be removed from any bikes they are equpiied with?

Not really, I kept them on my bike, just to keep it all stock, some guys just don't like them, they can leak, and so on, it's like the air system, it either works for you, or it leaks...LOL

if you change the springs to an updated version (progressive) you don't need the anti dive units, so it has been said....

Actually with the emulators installed the anti's are useless, but then again they are useless to begin with...:D
