Can anybody shed any light on this bike

Engine number p703100065
The log book just says gs650
Registered 1985
I would like to know what model gs I have and where it was made etc etc so I can pick up the correct spares as and when required. It's a shaft drive

Thanks. I'm now having doubts this is 1985 bike. Just because it was registered in 1985 on the log book dosent mean that's the model of bike. All the original plastics I got with it have 650 gt on but I can only find details of the gt up to 1983. Very confusing. Thanks for your help anyway

Well, it has an engine and two wheels.

The length of the VIN number makes me think it's a 1980 or older. (At least, it would if it was a US bike. Not sure if they went to longer VINs in the UK at the same time.) The ID plate on the steering head should say the date of manufacture. The cylinders will have a size stamped onto them somewhere, although this isn't accurate if they've been bored. The instrument cluster and slope of the top bar coming down from the frame make me think it was probably an L model, but it's not a 1980 GS850GL, because I know what that frame looks like.

Pretty sure you are missing some numbers in the VIN. The G stands for multiple cylinder sport street, the P is the engine size 600-699 cc, the 7 means its a 4 stroke 4 cylinder. There should be 17 characters in the VIN starting in 1983 I believe. Check your steering neck for a plate or see if the characters are stamped into the frame.
