Not much done this weekend.

Welded in the front half of the bottom seat pan.

Welding is getting marginally better.

Then loosely put suspension on to check clearance of that small rear fender, but it so difficult to see with the current rear tire on.

That thing is huge! My one was 3.50 X 18, this one is 4.00 X 18, so we will only be able to see accurately once a new rear tire has been fitted.

Also got the mountings for the rear indicators in place:

Slightly chunkier looking indicators.

And then I saw this...

Cool Wally! Stock rear tyre on the 1.85 x 18" rims is a 3.50-18. I run a 4.10-18 on mine and have plenty of clearance but not sure how that compares with a 4.00-18. I know there are sidewall profile differences but the sizing confuses me.

A 110/90-18 should work as well.

Pete, I am nervous for clearances as my brother-in-law is about 15kgs heavier than me.

Maybe longer rear shocks will do the trick?

You could just weld those shocks so they don't move. He will never know.

Little bit of progress.

Ground down welds of bottom seat pan. Then welded in battery mounts (similar to Yahweh bike).

Gave brother-in-law a crash course on gas welding and I think he did a neat job!

We struggled to think up a way to mount the headlight. He (not me) chose a chopper style mount one. We came up with this solution:





Crap pics I know, but once painted it should blend nicely with the frame.
It will be bolted onto the lower tree and will give us a nice way of hiding the wiring. Now we will have to relocate ignition switch, as it doesn't work with the headlight placed there. Going to be side mounted below the seat.

Any suggestion on universal styles that can work?

Ordered some mini gauges for him for his birthday, so those are on the way.

Looking good.

I had a similar dilemma with mounting the headlight, I eventually made a bracket using the ignition mount points. It is essentially a u-shape, with a hole at the bottom to mount a bates-style light. Obviously you need a light that will allow you to turn the lens 180 degrees

Got me hooked on twins.

The light choice is weird - I hope it works (visually), though I think it might be a bit small.
Looks like a cruiser style light.

We looked at options mounting from ignition, but the the deep bucket of headlight would make the light sit too far forward.

I will try and snap the light later on.

I would have gone for a chunkier light, but that's just me...

Thanx, but technically it is only 1 as the other one is 95% done - which reminds me, I have to follow up with the electrical dude.

Lots of time in the garage means less time doing other stuff (incl riding), but I like it, though now that winter is approaching on our side I want to go ride...

Well, this is on hold indefinitely... my brother-in-law got a promotion last week and is moving 8 hours away starting 1 June.

Who knows...maybe I'll take it over from him if he's not keen to continue.
