    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Proper diode type for turn signal wires.

Hey all, Looking to get two diodes for the signal light wire path to the speedo indicator. Guess 12V, but not sure what Amps should I go for. Appreciate your input, cheers.
 
I am guessing that you have installed LEDs in your turn signals?

Do you have one or two indicators in your instrument cluster?
If you have two, you don't need diodes.
If you have one, just about any diode will do, a typical 1N4001 will do just fine.

Not LEDs, haven't seen them in action yet, but might consider if they're bright enough. The stock signals, but mini speedo has a single wire for left and right, hence diodes I suppose.

Just about ANY small diode will work. I don't know of any that are not rated for at least 12 volts, so that should not be a problem, either.

Is that single light in your mini speedo incandescent or LED?
Does that single wire supply power to that light or does it ground it?

Your instructions might have some of these answers.

Hey Steve, I believe it's an LED and the two wires supply power to it. Not sure about grounding.. Also, there aren't any instructions, only a simple colour code diagram. Thanks for your input. There is an electronics store nearby with somewhat informed sales people, they should be able to help.

Jabcb - thanks for your input as well, that kit looks good.

I believe the turn signal wiring is as follows. ..lt blue not n the lt green is power supplied from the flasher relay and the switch allows it to pass thru to lt green for right turn power supply and solid black for left turn power supply... the lights will pick up their ground closer to the light on the black wire with white stripe... why do you need a diode?
 
Steve, what I meant was that both left and right signal wires connect with a single indicator wire. Here's a picture of an identical unit with a diagram, that I saved from this forum;

Now.. My guess is to connect diodes positive to signal wires and negative to speedo. Please, correct me if that's not the case. Cheers
 
Electricity flows from negative to positive. .. a diode is a one way check valve there should be a symbol printed on it that is a triangle with a line at one point... that is the direction of flow thru the check valve
 
So the anode to signal wires and cathode to speedo, if I'm not mistaken

The banded end (and/or the arrow, if it's there) points toward ground. In this case, it would be on the end towards the speedo, so flow would be from through the LED on the speedo, then to ground.
