    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well i went and bought a new throttle sleeve from local suzuki dealer, $25, and it came with i think the original grip. I took the original grip off b/c i had bought a set of new grips. After taking off the grip that came with it i now can not get the new one on. The rib's on the sleeve will not allow the grip to slide on. The ribs dig into the inside of the rubber of the grip. I do not think even putting soapy water in the grip and on the nylon sleeve will work. It's just too tight. The size of the grips are 7/8" or 140mm. I hate to have to have two different types of grips on it. Should i just take the nylon sleeve and fit new grips to it or is there something else i should do?
 
Look at your grips, usually one has a bigger hole than the other. The bigger hole one goes over the throttle sleeve.

if you have access to an air compressor, try to start to slide the grip on the sleeve, then stick the air nozzle between the sleeve and the grip, and give it some air as you push the grip on....it should make it easier (also an easy way of removing grips without destroying them.)
 
i have an air compressor. It sounds like i am inflating the grip some to allow the grip onto the sleeve. I'll try it. I know those ribs on the sleeve are still going to dig into the semi-hard rubber that lines the inside of the grip. I'll keep tring. Patience!
 
Did you get grip glue too? The glue will act like a lube as you put it on. I replaced my grips and 1 was bigger than the other for the throttle as with out the glue it wasn't going on. They have little tubes at the dealer in Lunenburg for short money a couple of bucks.

I went to replace the grips on my 83 GS1100 and when i removed the throttle grip I discovered that the sleeve has a flange outside the trottle cover that prevents the new grip from goning fully on. Anyone know what sleeve I should be buying? My local metric shop only had sleeves fro two cable throttles.
 
I ahve always used nothing but DAWN dishwashing liquid-straight from bottle, smear some on the inside tube and slides right on. gets tight on its own (faster if you wash it with water afterwards).

Try hair spray (either pump or aerosol, any brand is fine.)

Spray liberally inside grip, and it'll slide right on. ;)

When it dries, it is firmly attached, and will not come off.

This works for both foam and rubber grips.
 
I shaved the ribs off of my throttle sleeve. I haven't had any trouble with the grip twisting on the sleeve, and installation was easier. The sleeve isn't smooth, by any means, so the sleeve probably still has some bit on the inside of the grip.
