A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys, I'm new to riding and my GS, but I've got a question for you (tried searching and didn't find an answer). Currently the bike has a Vetter Wind Jammer Fairing. I want to remove it while I'm learning to ride so that if and when I dump the bike I won't kill the fairing.

Getting the fairing off will be no problem, its like 4 bolts and the whole thing including the lowers will come off. My problem comes with putting the stock Headlight tree back on the front. To do it I have to remove the upper tripple clamp. That's where my question comes in.

When I remove the tripple clamp, is there anything special I need to do? Do I need to worry about alignment of the fork tubes or anything like that? I guessing this is something I should do with the front wheel off the ground? Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

If they are like most Suzuki models you do hve to take the top triple off. Do prop something under the bike to get the weight off the wheel. It can lighly touch the ground. The top triple is the last to be tightened when assembling a front end so just pull it off and put it back.

I'm an idiot

I'm an idiot

Sorry folks, just realized I broke the cardinal rule when asking for help. Maybe I'd do better if I told you what bike I'm talking about. FYI - It's a 1978 GS1000. Geeze what a way to make a first impression.

Thanks.

So if I follow you correctly, as long as I get the weight off the front wheel, there isn't anything else I should have to contend with as far as lining up the clamp or such? If so, that's great news!
