A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Doing valve adjustments for the first time, got my spreadsheet from Steve (thanks Steve!), got everything apart and measured all shims + clearances. 4 of them are tight, and I am thankfully able to swap 3, only needing to order 1 size that I don't have.

My question is, can you turn the engine without a shim in place? I feel like I've read that you should not. If not, then how does one go about swapping between cylinders if they cannot both be in the right position at the same time?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO................ do not turn the engine over with a shim missing. if you have to obtain one new one to complete the clearance setting then wait until you get it, so you have a spare to use incase you find yourself with an empty bucket and need to turn it over.

it has been known to slot a coin in the bucket to use as a shim substitute if absolutely necessary. i am not sure what coin you would use in USA money but make sure it is a fairly good fit and sits flush or higher with the bucket rim on the top

Nope don't turn engine with a shim missing- no sense chipping bucket or scoring camlobe. Maybe try a quarter as skinny shim and watch carefully as you turn crank. you know about member ghostgs1 and the shim club?

That's what I thought. And yeah I got ahold of ghostgs1 regarding the shim club, but I already ended up ordering some replacements from z1. I can't really trade until I have some inventory, and I need the extras in order to swap the 3 swappable ones around.

Guess I'm waiting on shims now. Thanks all.

I've read quarters and those small gold dollars coins will do the job. If you want to do it on the cheap, use quarters, or dollars for a more expensive experience. :D
