A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Looking for a new R/R for my 1981 GS650G. Any recommendations? Trying to keep my budget below $100.

Thanks.

I'm thinking a SH-775 would work. maybe online $75 shipped or visit a Polaris ATV dealer and haggle- you want Polaris pn #4012941

The general consensus is the SH-775 is the only way to go. As stated above, it's a Polaris part that's better and less expensive then the alternatives.

Here's a good alternative harness to go with that R/R:

Just spoke with Jack at ROADSTERCYCLE.COM, he recommends the FH020AA over the Sh-775. Both require special wire kits and connectors and are more than I want to spend. What about Ricks, Electrosport or Arrow Head?

SH-775 all the way. The Triumph connector is $10, but you don't strictly need it.

I have both...a FET (shunt) version and the SH-775. I have not had problems with either in their application, but I would lean towards the true series Polaris R/R if needed in the future. The cost is slightly lower, and if you get a chance to read through the R/R thread, you'll see there are advantages.

SH-775 series type RR all the way. Going back to a shunt type is like putting wore out boots back on when you have new ones.

I would say, more like changing your engine oil by draining the oil from your engine and then pouring it back in. Out of site out of mind. :(

I do this all the time- got to keep the new ones clean!

snackie; get the SH-775- you don't need special connector, I just used spades

Funny that they are now offering the SH-775 kit all over their site as "NEW NOW OFFERING!" but they still recommend the older FH020AA. Curious as to what reason they gave for preferring the FH20AA over the SH-775?

They both need some minor rewiring but they both use the same connectors and the same input/output pins, so you'll need to do the same wiring either way. The good news is that once done you wont have to rewire it again when the FH020AA dies.;)

If they're doing it to get rid of old stock at the customer's future expense, it's pretty low tactics.

Yeah, I like your analogy better then mine. Though usually when I get new boots, my old ones are pretty well wore out.

Sounds to me they did a bit of research on the shunt vs the series and saw how much better the series was. So now they offer good deals on the the old shunt styles to get rid of them then when it goes bad at some time, they can sell you a series one, double the money for them.

They're all made by the same company they're just rebranded by the end user. Happens in the automotive industry all the time.

I picked up one off of ebay used for $40 delivered. They're pretty indestructible. As long as the seller guarantees it, you should be OK with a used SH775. Most Polaris dealers will sell them new for around $75 if new is the way you want to go.
