A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Random Photo thread

It was great to get out of the city and go camping for a few days. Grasslands National Park in southern Sk. Space, quiet and simplicity. A snapshot..
. . . .
Almost feel like am sitting there with you looking out at the scene (without having done the hike). Interesting to look around.

Dogwood tree blossom at daughters house. . . . . and a visiting guest.
Was a bit windy, which effected the focus, and the visiting guest was gone before I could get a good look at it.

Could be part of my "went for ride" story

Maybe could have minimized the pier, and shown more waves-sun-lake, but is kinda hard to think when out there with the wind and all the commotion. But that is part of the fun, if waves there is all this commotion going on but can walk out there. Did bring home maybe a quart of lake water with me.

I wanted to give a shout out to my younger (almost 20) daughter who just graduated from a Dental Assistant certificate course this past weekend. She's hoping to work in the cosmetic dentistry side of things here soon. I forgot my camera Saturday for her graduation and my iPhone one didn't like the background (two very bright windows) so I redid the picture today. She paid for the course by herself (not cheap either) and did very well in it.

That's a beauty DB. Colour and composition and the crisp thin focal plane. Its an painterly image.

Thanks Dave. Reading your description of "painterly" was an a-ha moment. I take it as a high compliment.
I do like the dreamlike, silky quality it has. Not perfectly sharp even in the sharpest area, but I was quite pleased.
The picture was taken with and old Sears lens adapted to the camera and fully manually taken.

Dam Glen. Those are spectacular!

Why are you in HVAC? Should be shooting landscape for National Geographic or something.

Thanks Roger. Wether you realize it or not, you, some other photography fans here, and this site are mostly the reason for my fully re embracing photography.
When I completed the two year photography degree at the community College back in the late 90s, it was at a time of life where I needed to be a provider and not a dreamer. HVAC was steady. Chasing photography pursuits likely wouldn't have been.

The Riding Game and Anyone Go For a Ride Today threads were the beginning of my frustration with sub par cameras / cell phones.. Picture Of The Week Game was enough to push me over and start looking for a good camera. The last two years have been a lovely journey of learning and exploring imagery. There was a pretty significant learning curve for me going from film to digital.

I thank you and all involved.

Yes. I'm planning to do one more contest to "complete the circle" of entering all 4 seasons.
Being that I'm a glutton for punishment I'm planning on using a shot done with an adapted lens.
I just got back. I certainly didn't plan to walk the whole 5 mile loop.. I'm tired. It may have been worth it though. The other side of the park is a wooded area and it was a nice change of scenery. I don't generally do well photographing in the woods, but I may have gotten a few nice detail shots.

Consistently fine images DB. I'm curious about how many you shoot on an average walk.
My pic keeper rate might optimistically be 1/50+, if I'm not too choosey.
