A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi all, everynow and then when im out on a cruise at 55mph or so in 6th gear my engine randomly starts loosing power until it dies.... And if i coast it down to speed and dump the clutch in 3rd gear she starts back up no problem and acts as if nothing happened....

Compression 150psi (cold) both cylinders
Shims done 1000miles ago
Spark plugs 1000 miles
Carb cleaned 1500 miles ago

My fuel system has a gravity fed inline cartrige filter
Other than that 100% stock

Plugs are reading perfect colors just a hair orange on the tips

Why do you have an inline fuel filter when the one on the petcock does just fine? I'd get rid of it first as it might be restricting your fuel flow too much

It was doing it before the inline fuel filter, And as a reply i may have figured out part of the problem... the fuel selector switch was in prime, i don't know if that mode delivers enough fuel for the bike to run or not

Prime means the fuel is always flowing as the On and Reserve "modes" will only pull fuel when a vacuum is applied (bike's running). Leaving it on Prime could cause fuel to flow past the floats and into the engine ultimately making it into your oil.

Definitely sounds like a fuel issue, I'd check the Petcock and vent hoses. You've got a fuel starvation issue probably

The gas tank vents through the keyhole. They do clog up sometimes, and it will make it run pretty much as you describe. To test the venting, pop the gas cap and ride with it cracked open, see if that fixes it.

orange on the spark plug? is there any or how much rust is in your tank - his vent idea/ diag. test is a good one - just to be clear total fuel flow from the tank to your carb float bowls should be faster than main jet consumption. (highway riding) kinks in hose will do this too

maybe snap a photo of your spark plug for us. I have seen orange but the tank was horrible.
