A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I was lookin at your pics online and could help but notice that you don't have case guards. they aren't much as far as price goes (you can pick them up fairly cheaply at JCWhitney.com), they are easy to install (bolt on) and worth it.... i dumped my GS550E ('80) 7 years ago on the highway at 80mph after hitting a puddle of oil (in the middle of the night)at the beginning of an off ramp.

If it wasn't for the case guards, both sides of the engine would be TOAST.... the bike slid on one side ...highsided ...landed on top of me and then slid for about 20 feet on the other side......some good grind off on the case guards but they are still tickin :) and i'm still riding that bike today(after min. cosmetic work)

Wow and obviously your ok... lol All that and no mention of pain ;)

Mortation...how about leaving it in the sun? I also put my sidecovers, etc...left them in the hatchback of my car and baked them that way. I'd rather blow up my car then my house... ;)

lol I did the sun baking thing. Didnt help when ye old petro touched it. All in all the paint job held up really well, even the crappy spray on chrome (I am trying Alsa Corp's Mirra Chrome this round). Just any spot gas touched it got crappy.

OK, I'm reviving this thread in the hopes of seeing the promised pictures!

I haven't forgotten, I swear!! It's just that I've been riding the Kawa as much as humanly possible...Soooooo...I plan to get it back together, someday...I was thinking about doing it this week...it only needs a battery and re-assembly...I forgot where I put all the bolts! I haven't finished the tail-piece either...
I saw the roller job...Would have saved me from getting that blister on my finger:-D

Mildly on topic: I bought some high-temp "aluminum" paint (off-brand/can't remember brand...) at the local hardware store. Shot my starter cover with it, then baked it in the oven at 500 degrees for an hour (it's 1000 degree paint). It's 100% gas proof now and looks GREAT (just like dull aluminum). I've soaked it in gas and scraped it with my fingernail and it didn't even flinch. Plus it's routinely doused in gas from futzing with carbs/gas tank and it's still just like new. So you can get gasoline proof paint out of a one-part rattle-can, but don't expect to use it on your tank unless you want a textured finish.

Oh, Ihavent forgotten about it....if you can pry my hands of the Kawa 500...:-D
I plan to paint the starter cover with the gas resistant Dupli color. They have non-textured, but it would look cool I think on the rims:-D
