    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OIL LEAKS! God how I hate 'em!

The only thing that I had off the bike even remotely connected with oil wat the stator cover and the oil plug. I thought I had it beat when I re-did the stator cover gasket, again, with TONS of Silicone Blue to ENSURE a good fit.

All seemed well with arround town riding. No leaks no drops no nothing!

Yesterday I went on a ride upisland with the group. Nope. No oil spots when we stopped after an hour and a half of highway blasting. Still good after the next coffee stop 30 minutes latter.

Whoooo hoioooo

So I get ready to go to work this morning, head out to the bike.... and there is a HUGE oil puddle under it! WTF!


Help me before I do something horrible!
 
Didn't say what bike ? Did you check the clutch push rod seal
 
Hmmmmmmmm Yur right I didnt mention the bike!

Its a 1979 GS 1000
 
Clean the bottom of the engine and warm it up to see were the leak is. My bike started to leak after an ordinary oilchange and I thought the plug was bad. After cleaning the engin (it really needed a clean) I saw the oil was comming from the left side (Chain cover). Another cleaning (even worse) unveiled the bad clutch pushrod seal.
 
The only thing I can see beside the chain sprocket, is what looks like an oil return line, it goes to an oval item that is held on by two bolts. One is a dedicated bolt, the other is part of the chain cover.

Is this what I am looking at?
