A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Reasonable quality crimp tool?

I've been looking over the offerings on this website. Generally nice stuff, maybe a bit pricey:

The crimp tools are definitely nice, if I intended to use them regularly for years on end. I need to make a good, solid connection on a very occasional basis -- typically in spots where solder wouldn't look so good, or would result in too bulky of a connection.

I do like the closeup photos of the crimp results at the bottom of the page. I don't need to make a hundred of them, though -- just a dozen or so. I need to install some male bullet connectors I can trust.

I really like his H4 relay kits, too -- probably a terrific idea for bikes as old as ours. I could piece a kit together for less, but it's not a bad way to go.

I'm sure someone has found a more reasonably priced tool that gets the job done.

I got mine from Vintage Connections (www.vintageconnections.com) for not alot.

RTL Crimping Tool

Ergonomic Ratcheting Crimping Tool (with instruction sheet and standard open-barrel die set) - $35.00

You'll find a picture of it on the home page of their site. They also sell other dies but I haven't bought any yet.

I don't have a good criimper like any of those yet, but the one I have had my eye on for some time is the one that Cowboyup mentioned.

I, being the kind of electrical guy that I am, also plan on getting the complete optional die set to be able to handle virtually anything in the way of a crimp. :D

I got this one from harbor freight ... It works well for me, and you can't beat the price ...

Those are very nice crimpers, but like you said, very pricey, I think I saw a similar one to the first one on the page(blue handle) at either H-depot or Sears, and at about a third the cost, I believe it was made by channel lock, just don't remember exactly where, not much help, but maybe a google search will find it.

Well, I looked around, and this one was just tough to beat! It's not warm enough to ride to a HF today, so I just ordered the thing.

Thanks for the tip! I'll report on its functionality after I figure out how to use it properly.
