DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys Im new to the crowd. I purchased a 79 gs850g last year for a steal of 300 bucks. all it needed was gas. however i had the misfortune of a wreck a cpl months ago. while im repairing the bike id like to use the opportunity to rebuild the motor. however I can find no one around (athens Ga) thatll work on the bike due to its age. im fairly mechanically inclined. ive rebuilt car engines. how difficult will this rebuild be to do myself? and is there anything i should be particularly cautios of or look out for? I appreciate any and all help thanks.

Hi - they're a pretty easy motor to work on - just follow the manual and you'll be fine. However, if it was running fine why the urge to rebuild it? These bikes will take you to the moon and back with no problems.

Oh, and stateside the gasket sets have been taking a bit of criticism recently. To play safe it now appears that you guys ought to pay a bit more and but genuine Suzuki.

Why rebuild?

Is your compression low?

How many miles on it?

If it doesn't have the power you expect, then you just might have some other problem

If you can work on cars these bikes are a walk in the park.
Get a manual and ask questions here.

several reasons why im considering rebuilding. power seems a bit low, it had 250k on the odo when i got it, the bike didnt seem to be well cared for when i purchased and i was told it didnt run..that explained the $300 price tag. a rebuild is unnecessary. so i suppose if it aint broke dont fix it. it has a slight knock but from what ive read it would seem to be the valves needing adjusting.
