DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok, been down to the shop, i have the three wires from the stator, yellow, white with blue stripe, white with green stripe, the white with green stripe was plugged into the wiring harness, according to my manual looks like it runs to the lighting switch and comes back as a white with red stripe.
Now, do i just unplug it and hook the stator end to the RR and leave the other end of the white/greeen hanging? what about the white/red stripe?
Please help
Thanks
Woody

Wire the stator direct into the R/R and tape up the white/red and white/green on the main harness since they won't be used.

Hi,

See the r/r replacement guide on my website. See the electrical section of my website. Look a few posts down in the electrical forum for a thread entitled "gs400 rectifier". I just posted a wiring diagram in that thread. Taking your motorcycle to a shop usually turns out badly.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thanks again,

Make sure your R/R is well grounded Woody. Very important.

I just went through this myself.. the white/red and white/green from the harness are a loop. I even tested with my multimeter. Kiinda like the extra vertibrea that used to be a tail. The bikes evloved from Japan where you can turn off the lights. This loop ran to the headlight switch and disabled one of the three stator sections so the battery would not overcharge with the lights off. Since the Amreican version has no headlight switch, the loop is no longer needed but they still ran the wire...

The part that really baked my noodle was wondering why they color coded the wires when they can be connected any color to any color. Just remember, red goes to red, Black goes to the Neg battery terminal, and the rest, color does not matter.

(If your black just goes to the mounting screw, add a wire to the neg battery terminal. Mine did not have the full wire, just the short one to the mount. I ran an extra from the mount screw to the neg.) Extra ground can not hurt, not enough ground can kill your bike.

At that time the regulators did not regulate all 3 phases and they did not want the one and only regulated phase being switched off where a light switch was used

Posting just to be able to find at a later time... like tonight! LOL
