A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi. Can any one tell me where the rectifier ground wire gets grounded too ..the old one is grounded near the battery box with a few other grounds. Thanks

You are going to have to tell us what bike you have, crystal ball is broke. Regardless though, the factory Suzuki grounds are notoriously crappy so not sure what good the info will do you. Also, you would do well to rewire the stator loop circuit if you want your charging system to live.

Its a 1982 gs 850... I'm going to change the 3 quick release sprial lugs coming out of the harness where the 3 stator wires go ..they look pretty bad ..

Waste of time.

Wire the stator directly into the R/R, bypassing the main harness. Make sure the R/R has a solid ground, there are various options, most of which deviate from the factory ground point. Also, make sure your R/R power output from the R/R on the way back to the battery doesn't have excessive resistance. Check basscliff's website for info on the Stator Papers, and make sure you find Jim Posplyer's update. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

To answer your first question: the stock R/R usually has a relatively short wire that is attached somewhere near the R/R itself. It might be to the bolt that actually holds the R/R to its mount or it might be to the bolt that holds the fuse panel to the side of the battery box. Either way, there is another wire that needs to ground that plate, because it is mounted to the battery box, which is rubber-isolated for vibration. Find the wire from the R/R. You can either lengthen it to attach directly to the battery negative terminal or at least run another wire from the R/R ground point directly to the battery.

Hi ed thanks 4 helping me. So u are telling me to directly wire the 3 stator wires directly straight into the RR unit. .it has a plug with I think 4 wires going into it ..where do the 3 wires from the stator go to which wires from the RR unit plug. ..and also can I ground the RR unit to the ground where the neg battery wire is grounded its grounded to the engine peter

Hi Steve I'm getting confused here..I got some answers saying which I really appreciate..is to directly wire the stator to the rectifier ..I was going to just change the 3 quick connectors coming from the harness that go to the 3 stator wires and ground the RR unit to where the neg battery wire gos. That's to the engine peter

Hi Steve I'm getting confused here.
Part of the confusion is that you have started two threads on basically the same topic. :p

I answered this question in your other thread. For your convenince, here is a cut-and-paste:

Yes, you could do that, but please DON'T.

One of the three wires in the harness takes a side trip to a plug that is either under the tank or in the headlight bucket, depending on your bike model, and makes several unnecessary connections along the way. It is FAR BETTER to connect them directly to the wires that lead to the R/R.

As a half-way measure, you will find that one of your stator wires connects to a white wire with a green stripe. Disconnect that connection. You will find another wire that is white with a RED stripe that probably leads to the plug into which the R/R plugs. Find the bullet connector in that wire, disconnect it. Now, connect the stator wire that went to the white/green wire and connenct it to the white/red wire that is going to the R/R. Doing this will maintain your connector on the R/R, but your real goal should be to minimize the number of connections between the stator and R/R.

Hi Steve thanks 4 taking the time to explain this to me I understand some what. .only thing is the 3 stator wires are the same color.....I got from ricks Stators its brand new and so is the rectifier

No problem, they are all the same, electrically.

As long as you connect them all DIRECTLY to the R/R, you will be fine.
