A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Reluctant Project - Cooley Barn Find

It sounds and looks like a new bike. You have built a time machine that took me straight back to the showroom in 1980.

Still have plenty to do... but shes good so far. Got a free jug of Rottela T today..sort of. I got a gift card given to me so used that to buy the oil..

Carb sync and newer video

Carb sync and newer video

Tonight was carb sync and check the timing and do a little fuel adjusting. It was running real rich and I dialed down the mixture screws to get the best idles and she sounds really smooth..no sputtering or anything. Got the sync as close as I could. Seemed like if I so much as thought about tweeking another screw it would throw things way off so I cut my losses as it is.

Heres a pic of the gauges and click on the second picture to direct you to the newest video.....

Just actually listened to the video..didnt think the camera would pick up the rattling brake lever so much. I guess I need to fill the hole and redrill so it is quieter!!! Part of the fine tuning process I guess.

All of these bikes have rattling brake levers. That is why I bought a bunch of 8 mm X .20 mm shim washers. ;)

Video shows a hanging idle. You have the filter in the box? Sounds good otherwise. Nice job Chuck.

How you guys going to market the bike for the sale? ebay? If so, make sure you take a bunch of nice photos.

Took the video before i started turning in the mixture screws Ed..thats all gone. youll also notice a little rich puff of gassy smoke when i opened it up..thats gone too.

Thanks Chuck. I understand now, thanks. :)

I have the brake lever rattle too. where did you stick the shims, GSX1000E?

Didn't get to try to synch them again today. Mother's Day obligations and spend most of the afternoon doing lawn stuff. I'm gonna squeeze in a garage night after work this week and put this knowledge to use. Then on to the next thing on the list. :)

No shims..the hole for the bolt gets oblong after a trillion squeezes..so it either fill the hole and redrill, or get a bushing and insert it into the lever, or replace it with a new lever.

Okay guys, so what happened to this bike? Wasn't it a flipper? Or was the plan changed?

Greg got a stripe kit from some guy in the UK and all they sent was the black stripe. Guy told Greg that that was correct and as we all know that it isnt correct....the white and black are one two toned stripe. Guy wouldnt make a set of white ones or do anything else and has cut off all communications with Greg.

Painter called me today as a matter of fact. I gave him the info on a place here in Norman that I found and he is gonna be checking with them on betting some white to lay along side the UK guys black. Not an ideal situation but what else would be done except to reorder a complete and correct kit??

Basically its on the back burner right now till something is sourced so the thing will look right when done.

Reproduction Decal's makes a good kit. Not cheap, but that bike carries some value so you will get your money back. I'd get the proper stripes because the bike value depends heavily on a good paint job.

I am not gonna get into the whole Reproduction Decals thing here.I have had my say with Greg over this. This entire thing is another case of BUYER BEWARE. You can go cheap and redo it again...or do it right the first time.

And I made the point on the paint and proper striping being of the utmost importance..especially on the Cooleys.

Are you guy's still working on this one?
I haven't heard from Chuck about it in a while, but the last I heard was that the painter broke his wrist and that slowed things a bit. I hope it doesn't have to wait till next summer to sell it.

I have some shiny stuff to send Chuck when we get down to the last bits.

Sorry to hear............ having a painter with a broken wrist will certainly alter your target completion date!

If you are looking for a full set of stripes, I have a spare set from Reproduction Decals (or RD Decals) never used them as I'm keeping mine with the original paint.

PM me if you want them.

Hey Guys,

Is this bike done and sold or is it on the back burner? Or, maybe it will get passed on to another member for finishing,I know a guy who needs a project.:o
