    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

removing paint

the PO on my bike rattle canned basically the whole engine, except the head and the fins. primarily the clutch, stator cover and the other side (right side if your sitting on the bike).

The paint looks actually really good with no drips, but im debating taking off the paint and hopefully revealing the aluminum underneath and polishing it off.

Whats the best way to remove this paint so that it wont scratch or hurt whatevers underneath?

Paint stripper. Available at common hardware and home center stores.
 
A product called Aircraft Stripper.

You can find it in the paint department at your local auto parts store.

by the way, ... your clutch cover is on the "other side". Your clutch cable might go in on the left, but it merely activates the mechanism that releases the clutch. The clutch itself is behind the large flat-ish area at the right rear side of the engine.

Wait, are you SURE it wasnt painted from the factory?? I know the larger bikes didnt get black motors untill 83, but i dont know about the smaller bikes. Black was the stock motor colour from 83 on for A LOT of the GSs, with some various differences between the models. Some of them still had alu case covers, with a black case and jugs, stuff like that...might want to double check. Stripping the STOCK paint off those parts wont be as easy as one might think.

the PO painted it silver/aluminum colored, but flat, so i know its not stock.

The stock Suzuki clear coat is soft and bubbles up right away when paint stripper hits it.
 
aw man.

i don't want to take any clear coat off it, i want that shine from the aluminum like all your bikes.

i guess ill just leave it withe the silver, aluminum paint, it looks pretty good though
