A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I will try to show my repaint of my bike here, i was given advice and help by my friend.
I have never painted with a gun before, so i took a lot of advice from him.
Thanks Dan.

There was a lot of prep work.
Here is a before pic.

Then some Molasses to get the rust off, inside and out.

Some spray putty for the small holes left by the rust.

Dummy assembly before painting.

There was obviously a lot of sanding between the spray putty and the undercoat, but i wasnt enjoying myself and didnt really get any good photos.:o

Next is the "spraybooth"

It worked well, but you need air circulation, as many people here suggested.

First coat.

Side covers and ducktail.

Starting to put the stickers on.
At this point i should add that i am not really happy with the stickers. I think that they sat in my shed too long or possibly werent scanned right?
For this reason i havent cleared over them, but i have cleared the paint.

So, my I painted the colour with a $50 paint gun and my mate did the clear with a bigger gun.
It hasnt been polished yet, but i am happy with it.
Except the stickers.

Nice work... maybe I'm missing something but I don't see any issues with the stickers?

PS: I promise not to tell the council you filled your wheelie bin with molasses :-\\\

Very nice job! Whatever the problem with the stickers the photos don't pick up on it - they look good too.

Regards,

Thanks everyone.
Dont worry about the council, i "rescued" that bin from a drain:-\\\

The stickers do look alright in the photos, and for now i will leave them. But they didnt fit quite right and i had to cut the pinstriping and then make rejoin at the end. also there are a couple of folds.
Part my fault part the stickers.

Looks good!!
Personally I liked it better without the graphics(stickers).
BUt thats just me, I'm a "less is more" kinda guy.

+1, a simple stripe here or there is enough for me.
I just found a gallon of silver paint bought for a car I never got around to painting.
Guess I'll be making silver bikes for a while.

Silver skunk with black stripe?

Maybe a silver and red 550?

I LOVE silver!!!!
Quite possibly the most diffecult to apply and make look good though. Although I've never done a single stage. May be easier.

I agree with everyone..looks great. I really enjoy watching people learn to paint. You jumped in, took proper steps, had a few setbacks probably, and now you have a nice finished product. Feels good, eh? :D

Decals are a bitch. I've used them in several restorations for people. They're always too thick, and to bend them around curves, on the front of the tank especially, is almost always a white knuckle experience. Even taking all the precautions, having the right tools, following all the directions, they still want to fold there it seems. I would much rather paint them. It's actually easier for me.

I applaud your results.

I very nearly left the stripes off and just went for the big blue piece with a little gold around it.
I really like the red shocks with the silver bike, so i look forward to seeing a 550:clap:
