    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

replace all 4 pilot screws?

i lightly marred a pilot screw (need to get some JIS screwdrivers :)). should i just replace all four or is it ok to just replace one?
 
They dont need replaced if you got them out. Slide the flat tops on a file to clean them up. Then use a hack saw blade and carefully just recut the slots a tad deeper. Dont lock them in a vice or anything..hold them in yiur hand and use a blade to clean them up

Even the thinnest dremel wheels are rather large for my tatse, so thats why i recommend the saw blade.

I thought that the only time you needed a JIS screwdriver is when the screws involved had cross-head engagements that resembled a Phillips head? :-k

Any of the pilot screws that I have seen were all straight slots.

If you replace just one the other three will be jealous. Best get all new screws to keep the peace.:p
 
i'll post some pics after dipping and get your opinions. it may not be as drastic as i think.
 
There are plenty of uses for straight slot JIS screwdrivers, but you are correct. I was mistaken in my saying I needed one for this. :oops:

Did you go though the carb rebuild tutorial as linked in my signature?

Did you ungang the carbs and soak each in carb dip?

Did you replace all the various O-rings?

Regarding those clips, one is for the slide which you don't need and I don't recognize the others.
 
yep, followed the rebuild tutorial exactly. soaked and now getting some detailed cleaning/polishing before putting everything back together.

i have the o-ring kit from cycleorings, so yes, replacing those too. i was just trying to decide if i needed to replace all the brass parts. everything looks great though. all holes were clean before the dip, and everything is super clean now. i'll make sure to shoot carb spray through the appropriate holes, etc and reassemble according to the tutorial as well.

Those kits will fit numerous different applications. So they come with some parts that aren't used on your bike.
 
when i took the carbs out and started taking them apart, i noticed that none of my pilot jets had those caps on them. (the ones on Nessism's awesome tutorial)

do i need to replace them?

Well, that would actually depend on your terminology.

You said your "jets" did not have caps. The caps in the picture are meant to go over the screws.

However, down deep in the carbs, where the jets are, there are some rubber caps that cover them. Those are MANDATORY.

gotcha. my mistake there. i do have those rubber plugs.
