Replace final drive for touring?

First off I didn't see Steve mention any tire size when he posted about "Goldie" Erics G. His bike does have a 2.66:1 final drive. I can attest to that, since I have the same item to do the conversion on SuzyII, my 1000G. I plan on doing it when she becomes a 1100G.

Sorry, but I'm sworn to secrecy and until I get the go head from Eric, you'll have to figure it out yourself.:p

Well, I'm not sworn to secrecy, fact is I just don't know. Maybe he changed the tranny gearing with another model.
Besides I like 'em stock, don't need no grandma gearing.

The VS1400 has a 2.66:1 final drive. Off hand it looks like if you remove the spline adapter from the GS unit and insert it into the VS unit it might work.

Possibly the VL1500 and the C90 series will work also??

I like it! Especially for the 850, cruzin around here on the slab if your not doing 80 everyone is passing you like your parked and at 80 the 850 is right up to about 6000 rpm. Changing it to a 2.66 ratio would bring it down significantly, better mileage, less buzz, less wear and tear. The 850's weren't known for there lightning speed anyway and it would make it a better sport tourer so what's not to like?:confused:

Squawked the tire between first and second on the way to work this morning. I'd say you need to work the throttle a wee bit more. ;)

The tease is right up Eric's alley. "I know the answer but I'm not telling you"...blah blah blah. What ever. Even in death (so to speak) Eric is annoying.:hand:

Eric is like herpes, he just won't go away! Ray.

These quotes and attitudes are exactly why Eric wont share. Sad though, since no one else gets to benefit from his knowledge.

That's funny, so now you have them both...:D

Yeah, that is funny.

I have only ridden one 850, that of bwringer. It hauls the mail, to say the least. Sport tourer, sure, but it flat gets up and goes also.

There is no doubt at all that it will lower the engine speed, but I'm not so sure about the "better mileage" part of that.

For my 850s, 4000 RPM is about 55 mph. Change my final drive to a 2.66, the engine speed would drop to just over 3400 RPM. That is just a bit lower in the power band, would have to open up the throttle a bit more to get the power that I need. At 5000 RPM (70 mph), engine speed would drop to about 4300. Not a bad speed, but might be lower that necessary for the road speed.

Might be just enough to offset any fuel savings, might be just enough to upset any fuel savings.

No, ERIC is why Eric won't share the info. If he cared about helping SHARE the knowledge he would have forwarded the INFO for someone to post. A lot of us dealt with his crap for a long time & he got kicked off this board THREE times that I know of for "being Eric". He is no loss to me or many others that I know here. If he wanted to be useful he would have people posting things that he thinks only he knows that could actually help people. To me, he is gone for a reason & it is good riddance. Ray.

And this helps the OP how Ray? Do you have a solution Ray? Nope, I didn't think so or you would be giving the info instead of complaining about who could.:-\\\

So how is being Ray working out?:-s

I do hope Eric is willing to help through an email or at least ask me to send them a PM.

His rancor far exceeds any conceivable benefit of his participation.

gsrick, you never had to put up with his drunken attacks & incessant babbling. You might feel the same as myself & many others here if you had. Eric is also a thief. PM Renobruce if you need more info & varification! Ray.

Also, the Intruder is the bike to get the rear drive gear conversion from. One of the guys I worked with at Suzuki in Hawaii did his 850 that way.

Not to mention how spiteful he got if you didn't immediately take his advice, bow to his knowledge, or answer him in his timeline not yours.

First to the OP. I'm sorry this has happened to your thread. My sincere apologies. Also, to all the other members that wish this kind of crap would go away.

There have been accusations of theft, but there has never been any proof. And what was that about anyway? A chopped up frame that someone made into an engine stand. Really, this is what gets someone thrown off from here? That is a load of BS. I've even offered to either party, A FREE FRAME TO HELP SETTLE THIS, BUT NOOOOOOOOOO. Why? Because it was an attack, a means to a vindictive end, not about some stupid piece of hacked up metal.

I trust the person that has helped me more than anyone here. The person that has sent me parts without me asking and wanting nothing in return. That would be Eric.

There was and incident here this year about a front brake rotor, where someone paid for that part and never received it. Then was repeatedly ignored when asked for the part or money back. That is true theft. That person is still here. Why, because the other person has class.

Also, the Intruder is the bike to get the rear drive gear conversion from. One of the guys I worked with at Suzuki in Hawaii did his 850 that way.

Hmmmm, nice try Ray and it might just work with a lot of modification, but that's not the answer. Or is it? I guess you would have to buy one, modify it or not, and see, but then if your wrong, you'll have to buy something else and try. See my point or I should say Eric's point.

Maybe Boulevards, Marauders, or some other brands, a Yamaha V-Star, possibly. Might not even be a motorcycle part, but you didn't hear that from me.;)

The point is, why should someone(Eric) give out info that took time, research, labor, out of pocket expense trying different combinations and components, to people that just bad mouth him every chance they get. Yeah that just sucks, because there are some really good people here that could benefit from such info.

Does that mean I'm saying your bad Ray? No, I don't really know you well enough, like I've gotten to know Eric over the last couple years. I can only judge you by what you post and everytime Eric's name is mentioned, it's not nice, that much I can tell.

This is from an email that Eric sent me today. I'm not going to edit it, so what is said, is what is said. I'm finished with this thread and if Eric wants to help someone I'll send them a PM. There is a Youtube video link that allows anyone to see how this modification can benefit those of us, me included, that can benefit from having a way to change the gearing on our shaft bikes. I use the highway every week day and I WILL appreciate the added fuel mileage when I change my bike.

Just remind the class, in retaliation to RABIDray's post, that over the past several years on GSR, no one except for Basscliff,
has posted more "How to video's" or taken more pictures of parts to help members and shown more complete bike rebuilds.
I have since deleted as many pictures as I could in those threads AFTER seeing the replies to my being banned on that site.
No need to help my haters... they can figure this stuff out at THEIR expense!
Has Ray posted ONE rebuild EVER???

Also, please tell them to view in HD and turn the volume off.

That video should answer most doubts.
If they want specs: the front tire is a Bridgestone S-11 100/90-19 with stock speedo drive and the rear tire is a Pirelli Sport Demon 130/90-17.
I can take pic's to PROOVE any of this, of course.

You go BOYEEEEEEEEEEE! That will show em.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I'd really like to know what he's done to make it so you feel the need to be his own attack dog to defend him. His actions caused his banning and honestly, the forum has been much nicer to be around since he left.
