    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i am going to replace all the fuel hoses on my 1150. do i need to get it from a motorcycle shop ?. regular auto parts store hose [vacume ] looks the same. i should know this answer but i do not.:confused::eek:
 
No, you do not, however, I recommend getting the cloth-braided type found in VW shops or some foreign car parts stores.
 
No, you don't have to get it from a motorcycle shop, however, you do need to purchase "fuel hose" Vacuum hose, etc does not stand up to constant fuel. Even at a M/C shop it is only a buck or two a foot.
 
Hi John,

I've just got one fuel hose on my 850. I got mine (5/16") from a local auto store, The Auto Zone. It was just regular auto fuel line. It works great. It is thicker than the OEM stuff but gave me no problems.

I prefer the OE Suzuki fuel hose. It has a 7mm ID and is thin and stretchy. If you order a piece from Suzuki they will send you enough for about 4 GS’s. Automotive fuel hose will work but it’s thicker and more bulky, also 5/16” converts to 7.9 mm, which when slipped onto the 8 mm petcock nipple, it may leak so a clamp is strongly suggested.
 
Shouldn't all fuel lines be clamped regardless? My neighbor wouldn't let my bike pass safety without it, and I agree with him. Who wouldn't want to reduce the likeliness to set fire to themselves?

without a fuel pump it is gravity feed only. if the hose fits snug it will never come off by itself.
 
my fuel hose came from advance auto. bought several feet. extra was for an aux. fuel source when the tank is off the bike.
 
I don't run clamps on mine. I agree with Ed, the OE stuff is far superior to what you can get at Kragen etc.
Proper metric bike (or maybe even car) stuff would probably be just as good though & the Kragen stuff does work it's just more difficult to get it on & off in my experience.

Many years ago, I was told to use the new push-lok fuel hose on one of my cars.
When I asked if it still needed a hose clamp, I was told NO WAY!
Well, of course, it popped off and leaked. :mad:
When fuel is involved, even a gravity feed, I use a clamp. ;)

OEM stuff is fantastic. Honda may have the best stuff out there. The clear stuff gets hard and goes bad within 2 years. OEM is GENERALLY the best stuff.

If you need a clamp, you haven't got the best hose for your bike. With the right fit and material, it should never be necessary. As far as using fuel lines made for cars, I'd use them......on a car.
 
I would just ask for neoprene hose.

It does not matter what its package-label purpose might be as it is great for fuel lines and should be available at any automotive shop
 
I agree with rockford, no clamps needed.

The clamps Suzuki used aren't really clamps at all, they don't pinch down on the tube like a hose clamp, they are more of a ring that keeps the tube from pulling off over the barb on the male fitting.

After bringing a few Suzi's back to life, I concur about using Suzi fuel line.

It's different than what you can acquire at the auto parts store and if the first stuff held up for 25 years, unlike my experience with auto parts fuel hose, then this new Suzi hose should hold up for just as long.

Auto parts braided fuel line tends to dry out with the hot air-cooled engine heat, the vinyl small engine hose tends to harden up causing future cracks as well and making it very hard to remove from the tank, so that's why I am a strong supporter of using the real thing in this situation.
