Any ideas on a cheap set of more comfortable handle bars for a 650L? I dont want to replace any cables or wires. Stock ones from a different bike will work just as long as I dont have to replace anything else. Arms are getting sore from getting to ride it everyday. Thanks

A lot of people like Daytona bend bars, or Superbike bend. But it's all really subject to your riding style, your size and shape, and the bikes size and shape.

Anything has got to be better than the stock L bars, even a broken pogo stick tied on with silly putty strings would be an improvement.

Stock 850/1000G bars are great as are stock 750/1000E bars.
You did want to use the stock L cables, right?
Then those are good choices.

Eric

I went with Daytonas on mine. I'm 6'2" and they fit my arms great. I'm still trying to make the stock cables work. It is looking like Daytonas=spending the money on new cables.

I've got drag bars on my 79 1000L with stock cables. The factory bars do suck.

I just purchased Superbike bars for my 850. At 6' 2", the stock bars give me the cramps on my wrist as I am not able to extend them. I have not put them but keep hearing that you have to route the stock cables if you need to keep them.. I have heard the Katana's from the same era have shorter cables.

A lot of early super bikes used full bars, and have a nice style to them similar to Daytona's, and can be had cheap if you find someone parting bikes like on craigs or..., I used a set from a 92 Yam Seca II, love how they feel and look, also enabled me to use bar ends they came with. I didn't switch any cable lengths.

Here's what they look like on my L

and here's some big A$$ L bars-- no comparison

Thanks for the great ideas. I'm more than likely going to try cheap stocks ones that fit cables and wires. I'm cheap or poor however you want to look at it. I am not going the pogo stick way but it would have to be more comfortable. My driving style??? I'm guessing 6'2" long legged ol guy cramped up on a little bike? If thats a style :D. Thanks again will be keeping my eyes open.

Bar are super cheap, I got my superbike bars from Z1 for 15 bucks and still use the stock cables. It takes some routing but it works.

I finally got new handlebars and grips. WOW its going to be alittle different. It seems like turning is alot easier. No cramps in my arms. Much much better. I will be able to ride my bike alittle more, (no pain). I'm waiting for mastercylinder rebuild kit to get here, got the caliper rebuild kit for the front and a new hose.I would post a picture but I got a ugly bike compared to most on here.

Which bars did you go with? I have the exact same bike, looking to do the same. Did you have to drill a hole for the throttle or re-route cables?

No drilling all my cables on outside of bars. Grips were a bit of a pain but got them without to much trouble. I got them on ebay
Emgo Street Handlebar - Daytona Touring Bend

wow thats a copy and paste. They are okay probly could use a bit more pull back, got long arms. I can go around curves much better and alot more fun. I'm thinking the pogo stick would have been much more comfortable after all... :D
I really wish I would have done that 3 years ago. I'm not sure what is supposed to go in the handlebars. I'm probly going to have to find a speed-o and a tach replaced once but they are messed up and dont work. Seen some on ebay speed-o works with a magnet and a pickup, tack is electric, they are kinda funny looking but better than nothing, not going to buy old stuff anymore with gauges. Good luck with yours, if your long armed and 6' or so prbly going to want more pull back.

i did a pair of bars off a yamaha blaster...

the side mirrors work very nice too

I noticed my shoulders block my mirrors. I will try to adjust them again but I'm thinking it wont work. Going to have to find something else. I just remembered I got some gauges I found at work 2 sets but not sure what they are off of? Someone thew them out with some other parts in a box.

ctnoob- nice bike I like that look mines just stock keep replaceing parts every so often. I was going to get it painted this winter but that didnt happen.maybe next winter.

I have a good set of "L" replacement bars. Same height, but a more turned out grip. I will try to remember to take a shot or two of them for you. You don't live THAT far from me we could meet up to avoid shipping. After you see them you can make an offer. Don't really know what they're worth...

about 2 hours north. I could try to make it up that way,but my bike is a bit small for I-57. Rt. 51 gets me beat up if its busy, still 65mph. I will probly keep what I got for now otherwise wife might get a little ****y. I almost tried to make it up to joe nardy's when he was having the tire installation awhile back. I am not sure I would try to go that far with my bike would have to trailer it. You never know though. I wouldn't mind a look at them if you get the time, that crazy down and inward stock bars look made my forearms cramp up. I probly only went about 60 miles in one shot, but arms and hands were going numb.
