Replacing crank and transmission

I put together an 85 GS1150 with an 83 GS1100 motor. Since then the output shaft and crank taper has been ruined so I'm replacing both.

More to come tomorrow
That is an 1150 crank, .5 over 1150 pistons and of course a block cut for .5 over. I also have a good 1150 clutch basket since I can't use the 1100 with the 1150 crank.

Put in the crank, good 1150 output shaft and buttoned up the cases.
Replaced the RH crank seal and transmission seal.
Got everything ready for the clutch basket.
Replaced the intake valves, seals and saw that the exhaust valves were hammered. I had SEVEN so I need another one. 23mm stock exhaust valve.
Put the inner pistons on but I am waiting on some new wrist pin clips to go all new so they are coming off.
The 1150 block is not quite settling in the cases so I may need to relieve them by taking off some material. DAMN!

What happened to the nut holding the C/S sprocket on that caused that damage? What happened to the cover?

The counter sprocket cover?
The nut backed off the sprocket and the sprocket was spinning on the threads which ruined them.

Cleaned the cases so the 1150 block drops right in.
Rebuilt the starter that got fried when the starter clutch mated with the charging rotor.

I honed the cylinders and made a crank stay to drop the cylinder
I'm waiting on some wrist pin clips to drop the cylinder and one exhaust valve since they were all hammered and of course I only had seven.

Wrist pin clips came so I dropped the cylinder over the pistons.
I'm also using a new cam chain.

Chef, I am still trying to figure out how the C/S sprocket nut, which is torqued down to 65-73 Ft. Lbs. of torque, is threaded into the direction that the crank turns and has a locking tab, just works its way loose and backs out?
This IS NOT a normal occurrence on these bikes. What caused it?

No it's not
I'm not sure how it happened but it did.
I put it on with a rattle gun and bent a washer over the nut.
If you have the time can you come put it on for me to make sure it doesn't happen again? Splitting the cases was a pita. :D

I think you are talking about the nut that goes over the front sprocket, right? If so, I think the chain was too tights, and the sprocket ended up coming off of it seat and stripped the threads. I remember this because Bill had to go back and get a new sprocket... I could be totally wrong, but I thinks that's what happened. This happened at the same time my sprocket cover got chewed by the chain.
