    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

replacing plug wires info needed

Does the new plug wires need to have solid copper core? The wires on a car doesn't have solid wire but they also do not use screw on caps. Can I use car spark plug wires or do I need to use a solid wire?

Unless you are really good at adapting and splicing, the first thing you are going to need is new coils. :shock:

Stock coils have the wires molded in. I have heard that they can be dug out and replaced, but have not tried it myself.

That being said, I have Accel coils on the 850 and went to Auto Zone and got plug wires that fit the bike. I got two with straight heads for the inner plugs and two with 90-degree heads for the outer plugs. I had previously gotten a set for my Kawasaki Voyager, so I don't know if the box of spare wires is left over from that bike or the 850. The wires on the 850 are 7mm, and the box says they are a carbon-impregnated fiberglas core. They have been on there for two years, now, and have had no problems. There is also virtually no interference with the CB radio, iPod or XM radio. \\:D/

I have one wire with a crack in the insulation. It is to far up to trim out and put the cap back on. I was thinking about using a NGK splicer to splice in another wire. I am a little short on cash so replacing the coils will have to wait. Has anybody had any luck using a splicer?

if ca$h is tight, you could try unthreading the plug cap off, then slipping some heat-shrink tubing over the plug wire - could even use a couple of layers and still not spend much.

The reason you need metal core is so the little screws in the plug cap (and down in the coil) can thread into the wire. "Racing" car wire is generally metal core, since radio interference is not an issue.

Thanks for the suggestion rkubik. That should hold me over until I can afford some new coils.
