DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Whats the consensus about using NGK resister caps with NGK B8ES R (resister) plugs on an 1983 GS 1100 G?

Chasing down a 1/2 throttle and up misfire and I don't want to add to the problem!

Tks

One or the other please. Why don't you tell us about your bike....stock intake?....stock exhaust?

resistor caps or plugs, (or neither)
but not both

and use metal core spark plug wires

Stock exhaust and intake.

Carbs cleaned with ultrasonic and all passages finished all passages with carb cleaner.

All jets inspected, float height within specifications

New NGK resister caps and soon new non resister NGK B8ES

Starts ,idles perfectly, takes 1/2 throttle or more when stationary on workbench but once on road under-load ,above 4500 RPM misfire's on one or 2 cylinders. By the look of the plugs its # 2,#3

Tried one new coil, superseded part # which is a fair bit smaller which I assume not unusual. Carb manifold connector o rings look fine but will further ck for air leaks.

Initially there was no response from pulling enricher during road test, indicating ignition issue but on weekend it did respond slightly.

May have 2 little gremlins involving fuel and fire.

Double the resistance on the secondary side of the coil would probably only affect ignition if you were really stressing it. Like a large plug gap, really high compression ratio, or overly lean mixture. But your right, if you are chasing problems get the regular B8ES and do not add odd combinations into the mix.

Throw a timing light on it sometime too, and make sure ignition advances through the rpm range.

Since it seems 2 and/or 3 is misfiring....cap off petcock fitting to 2 ,run petcock in PR and see if issue goes away. Your petcock could be fouling out 2 under load increase.

What are the usual symptoms for a faulty signal generator and or igniter ?

Is it possible they could only act up under load?

Seems strange that would be the case but I'm sure someone could shed some light on the possibility.

Switched out coils with one new one and known working one from another GS 1100 G...

Tks
