    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Restoring gauges

Anyone have info on restoring the stock gauges? Had to take apart the 1150 cluster to remove some dead flies and replace some bulbs that blew at last years' drag fiasco. There's some dust in there and the glass is cloudy. Just don't to do anything that'll mar the plastic or gauge face.
 
I actually took mine apart and cleaned the glass..it was pretty dirty on the inside..also lubed the mechanisms inside as both the tach and speedo were hanging up..they look great and work perfect now..also repainted the needle ends red...I used a screwdriver to bend back the bezel on the back side and carefully bent them back to re-assemble..I think it was Nessim I saw had a post where he did it thats where I saw how it was done.

Luckily, the 1150 doesn't require anything special to get in the gauges. Just a couple of screws ...

What about cleaning the gauge face itself? I just don't want to mar it.

I just used a soft cloth with windex..I plan on getting new gauge faces when Rudy is ready to make them up for people..just be careful when you lube the mechanism..my tach I put back together only to see 2 drops on machine oil on the glass after I re-assembled them so had to pull that one back apart.
 
How does one remove the tripmeter knob on 1980 gs850 gauges. I can't see a screw, but is a press fit? Thanks Ted

How did you apply it? Safe to go right over the numbers and the like?

S100 Engine Brightener.

I sprayed it sparingly barely depressing the button then wiped the guage face down. It didn't change the numbers. I was afraid it might and tried it in a small spot first with a q-tip, but it didn't seem to harm them. It didn't take much. The black on the guage face was pretty faded/chalky looking. I didn't get a before pic on the guages, but I used it on the faded rear fender plastics as well.

Here is a before faded plastic part that backs the trunk and tail light.

Does look gorgeous, although the 1150 gauges have that big trapezoid cluster.
