Hey guys,
I have a GS450LJ and i did an oil change on it today. When getting the filter online I had unknowingly ordered a filter that didnt include the o-ring, so i had my shop order some oem o-rings.
When doing the oil change, i noticed that the OEM o-ring was just a tiny bit thinner (i mean, not much, but enough for me to notice while handling) then the o-rings I had used many previous oil changes (including the one that just came out of the machine).
So, i went through with the oil change and when i fired up the bike, it leaked out of the filter cover. So, i decided to replace the new o-ring with the one that just came out of the bike (its been in there for 2k miles, i usually change them every oil change). When i threw everything back together, it worked fine with no leaks.
Is this ok to use until the next oil change? I dont have time to get the filter i normally get because im going on a trip this thursday the 4th. The trip is 900mi total (round trip) and i planned on changing the oil as soon as i return including the o-ring with the old filters i got with the o-rings that seem to work better.
Is this ok? The o-ring looks just fine, and i figured that this is ok as long as i dont reuse it again after the next change.
