    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

rod knocking

I started hearing a knocking today coming from the #1 side of the crankcase of my GS750E. 8O I've been hammering it pretty hard for a while now, so.....Historically, is there a bearing on the crank that tends to go out first due to load, etc?
I was told that you cant get oversize bearings for the one piece 750 cranks (or maybe only slightly over to account for wear?) and the crank can't be ground undersize like a car crank...is this true?
Is there anyplace to buy a rebuild kit for these engines, with all the necessary gaskets, valve guides, o-rings..all the stuff that would need to be replaced in a complete teardown?
It looks like it might take longer to find all the parts than to actually rebuild the motor.
Anybody have any advise?

What year is your 750?? Have you checked the oil pressure?? Does the oil light come on at idle? If you have been hard on it it could be the clutch basket making noise
 
rod knocking

Its an 82750E....I can't hear it when its idling or when I bring the revs up in neutral...I only hear it when I'm riding. It starts at about 2000 rpm, rises with the engine speed, and the noise of the exhaust/intake drowned it out by 5000 rpm. I'm going to try and make a "mechanics stethoscope to isolate where its coming from...any thoughts on the "rebuild kit" Since I have no idea how many miles are on the bike, maybe I should just tear it down...mic everything, and replace the worn components. If a rod goes..I could be in a $$$ bind.

It's true, you can't have the cranks turned. The bearings have different color codes and you have to use Plastiguages to determine the right size bearings.
