    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm getting ready to do the head gasket job on my 1982 GS300L D model. I figured though, i might as well replace the rings and maybe the pistons too if I'm gonna have all of that stuff pulled apart. I know a place to get the rings from but i was wondering if anybody knows anywhere that i can get new pistons (part number) 12111-11902 and a new rod assembly (part number) 12160-11900

I might want to replace the lower head gasket as well, just to make sure everything is pristine in the engine so i have no doubts. I can find the upper head gasket but not the lower one. You shouldn't need pistons or that rod, just change the rings, gaskets and valve stem seals. Easy to say though since that base gasket doesn't seem to be available.
 
The base gasket for the '81 GS250 looks very similar and is pretty cheap, it might be worth getting one. Could fit, could be an easy mod to fit...or a waste of $12 or so. PN 11241-11400-H17

I'm gonna go to the suzuki shop sometime this week with a parts list. I gonna replace the rings, valves, valve seats, springs, rocker arms and any other gasket or pin you can think of involved wit the cylinder head.

Sounds like a monumental waste of money to replace all those parts. Do yourself a favor and learn how to measure and inspect everything. To measure is to know. The valves, rockers, valve seats, etc very rarely wear beyond the service limit and changing them is expensive. Buy or borrow a micrometer and learn to measure the valve stems. Get a dial indicator and learn to measure the wobble clearance between the valve and valve guide. Only replace stuff that is worn. Save your money for stuff that matters. You are likely to out grow that 300 anyway so don't throw all your money away since you will never get it back in resale value.
 
Well, i bought all these parts and i already got like 400 bucks into the thing, I figured if i pull the head off i just get a manual and replace everything myself. I found intake valves for 24 bucks a piece and exhaust valves for 35 bucks a piece.
Im gonna replace the rings for sure. I kinda need a new set of contact breaker/ points. Its that part thats under that cover on the right side of the engine if you looking down at it while your sitting on the bike. mine only sends signals to one of the coils, not both.
