A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So my bike wouldn't start today the battery was pretty much dead. So I took a look at the RR. It was giving 3 amps to the battery. And with no load I was getting 2 V off the RR. So I took a look at the stator looks fine. The RR is shot. Either it over heated or it was about to fail. So any ideas on a good RR for a Gs450?

I don't know how you figured these figures but to ME they look useless. How can you tell your getting 2V off the RR? Just pondering, you can change your R/R if you want I won't stop you.

I disconnected the battery and hooked a meeter up in its place and I got 3 ish volts at 5000 RPM. Its a no load test.

Go though the stator papers and start by checking the stator output. If that's okay, then check the R/R. The stator needs to be wired directly into the R/R, not into the old factory harness. The R/R output needs a solid ground, not to the battery box or crappy electrical tray grommet. The R/R positive output needs to feed directly into the fuse box, or to the battery with a 15A fuse in line.

Don't trust the factory wiring, redo everything if you want a reliable charging system. It's a really simple circuit and it pays to do everything fresh.

I checked everything. But when I test the diodes in the RR they are bad. Here is a few pics and a vid showing whats going on.

Your R/R ground looks weak. Looks like you used thin harness ground wire. Make a new wire that connects to the R/R on one end, with a bolt loop on the other end and run it straight to the battery. Also, do the same thing and run the positive out to the battery and see if you get the thing working.

I used two jumper wires and it was the same. 11.9 at the battery at idle and 12.3 at 5000. Whats going on?

What kind of AC voltage are you getting out of the Stator?

125? That doesn't sound right. Should be in the 75 V AC range.

Honestly, only thing I can recommend is to reitorate what I've said already. If you are not running the stator power directly into the R/R, do so. Do NOT use the old harness to route the power. Also, run the R/R output as stated; direct to the battery w/fuse and to ground. The key is to keep your charging system wiring short and direct. If all this doesn't work, your R/R must be bad.

Good luck

Okay I will check the one I have right now then get that one. I hope it works. Maybe I just bought one that was about to fail.
