DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Finally started my old 1000g after it had been sitting for about 2 years.
What a buzz, I had forgen how much fun it could be.
Starts ok and runs at low revs fine.
The problem is I cant get it over 2k revs while riding, in neutral it revs out ok with only minor misses.
Any ideas.
Craig

carbs clogged from sitting?
kinked fuel line?
in-line filter (if you have one) restricts the fuel flow?
any old fuel wouldnt help either

Checked petlock ... prime clean flow
on and reserve only flows while running
Idles well no misses
plugs very sooty I will clean them up and give it another go.
Havent put the air box on yet but that shouldnt cause a problem
Craig

if you donthave the air box in with a filter your bike can run like crap. My 650gl wont even start without the airbox

Wouldnt it just run lean without the airbox?

No. There are a couple of things that come into play here. The inlet tubes in the airbox smooth the airflow into the carb throat to minimize turbulence which would affect its ability to properly meter fuel. Another thing is that the carbs require a certain amount of restriction for all the parts to work properly. You need either a stock airbox or pods to provide that restriction. Another quick fix for testing purposes only is to fold a shop rag in half and drape it over the inlets of the carbs. Use zip-ties to hold the rag to carbs 1&4, keeping it somewhat taut over 2&3. This will allow the bike to run, but it is not accurate enough to check your jetting.

Common problem newbies try & run their GS without the airbox. It's NOT going to happen

well, make sure you have a properly sealed airbox (as well as the whole intake system) and start from there
you cant really troubleshoot the fuel delivery system if part of it is missing :-s

Thanks guys
what a difference
Airbox on and away we go
Wow I forgot what a buzz it was to go for a ride
Box is sealing well except that I cant figure out where the hose coming out of the top goes??? so its still sucking some air.
There is still the odd miss/ flat spot but its minor I havent cleaned the plugs yet and it has been sitting for about 18months.

glad to hear such a basic thing as adding an airbox worked so well :-D

you re prob talking about the engine breather hose that goes on top of the valve cover

should run even better once that is in place too

Thanks for the input guys.
Put the airbox on and yep big difference.
Still a bit of a flat spot but only minor.I am happy to be able to go for a ride again
What a great site I keep finding new info every day
Thanks again.
