Rust and Dreams

Hey Yasser
Thanks for the encouragement. Things are going well. Bike's all apart. Now to get to the engine. I haven't started my parts list yet but will let you know if there's something you might be able to help me with.
I like your paint job. Do you have some larger photos of your T. Some of the aluminum parts on my bike are definitively going to be painted.

Here I hope this helps you justify putting too much money and time into the rust and dreams.

I have cleaned it up since the photos. Currently it has case guards and highway pegs and I have had a rear rack on it and a windsheild as my mood dictates, but you get the idea.

Keep telling yourself it's only time and money...

wishing you good luck with your project. :D

Yasser, that is one fine looking 750T you have there.

Perhaps BigRock could print a copy to hang on the wall for encouragement during the resurrection. ;)

Tracey B. Had that orange t that everyone drooled over and cloudbreakmd was quite OCD over his 83 also (my screen saver for awhile). Inspiration begets inspiration right? I am just so impressed with where BigRock is starting from - wow, symptoms of Asain Bike Flu for sure!

He said it has a bad bearing in #2 so I guess the cases are being split. Probably a good thing considering its had a tough life, the other bearings might be iffy. Or other unforseen problems.

I defiantly have the GS obsession. I've spending allot of time on the bike. Engines apart and it's worse than I had hoped. The crank rod journal is damaged and as I measure it is a little under size. I took it right away to the machine shop and he gave me hope. The crank has to be sent to CA for welding, grinding and nitrate hardening. About $400. I don't care. The build is still on!

The PO didn't believe in gaskets I guess?

I found this in the oil screen.

This is whats left of the rod bearing

When I saw this journal I almost cried. The rod journal on the left should look like the one on the right. @%&*$#@

Yasser thanks for the photos. Love the paint. Love the engine. I might be coping that engine look party because of the corrosion damage.
Thanks.

The black engine is one of the 82 vs 83 differences. Also you have 83 shaped directionals that it appears someone painted black. What color is your chain guard? What is the top mph number on your speedo?

Great stuff here lately (except that crank that is...)
BigRock: You found that broken bolt in the oil pick-up screen?

Yasser- amazing job on your bike! That's my motivation right there.

BigRoc - Sorry to hear about the crank, but it sounds like you're moving forward. No choice but to I think - you're in hopelessly deep now. I do wonder if the same guy owned your 750 and my 550. That replacement "gasket" crap looks all too familiar!

Things are moving along well. I'm spending allot of time on the bike.
finished painting the frame and wheels. The front fender had quite a few rust through spots that's why the bondo. Rear fender will need to be painted too.
How many times has this tank been painted?
No sense worrying about the engine right now.

There a happy sight, you have been busy on her! I am liking the look of those shocks, maybe I need to tear mine back apart and paint the springs black... Did you pull the triple tree apart and repack the neck bearings?

Black Wheels also it looks like.

What color are you considering for the tank?

I did have it down to the frame only. The neck bearings were turning a little rough so I wanted get it cleaned and repacked to make sure I didn't need new bearings. Old bearings turning nice and smooth with new grease.
Part of the reason I'm putting some things back on the bike so quick is my lack of space in my garage. I'll put the wheels on temporarily to give me more room.
Hey Hoosier- I went back over your build and it is giving me inspiration and perspiration. Inspiration- not to cut corners. Perspiration- thinking of the work ahead. Thanks.
Hey Yasser- I didn't notice the different signal lights till you pointed them out.
Black plastic back not painted. It must be specific to the time it was built. I think the "T" is the less expensive model.
I found a metallic black with just a hint of dark green for the tank, fenders and side panels.
Well back to reading the 'Stator Papers"
Is this site great or what?

Wow, you have been busy, great progress there and looking really nice.
Sorry about the crank journal, I am sure there is a solution that is not going to be too hard on the pocket, even if it means a second hand motor is cheaper than rebuilding the journal or replacing the crank, you guys over that side are really fortunate like that, you pick stuff up for next to nothing.
Over here buying parts goes along with bend over the counter and I hope you brought your own Vaseline.
Either way, you have a few options open to you.
Following with interest, keep up the good work.

Good News- crank is back and looks good. I had the machine shop fix the rod and glass bead the cylinders, head and hone the cylinders. The corrosion and patina were so bad l painted them. If it was even I would have left it.
I made big headway on the bike itself.

My schedule-go to work-work on bike-go to work-order parts-work on bike........

What I have on my screen for inspiration and ideas, thanks HD

Coil relay mod- I forgot to get the relay with the mounting hole. I'll figure a more permanent place latter.

Back to work come home work on bike. I love it!

I am honored! :o

Your latest work looks great.. cross hatch on the cylinder hone appears spot-on!

Is that a textured look on the paint or metallic and the pic's don't show it?
