So last Monday I got a call from my buddy warren another gsr member, to tell me about a 79 750 that showed up on kijiji. I took a look and found a fairly complete 79, minus the carbs and exhaust listed for $200cdn. I needed a decent tank, and a few other parts for my 79 build so I called the guy up and 6 hours later this showed up at my house

When the guy dropped it off he gave me quite the story. He told me he had purchased the bike the day before at the swap meet. I believed him, since I had actually spotted it at the meet but it was already sold. He said he paid $300 for it, removed the smoothbores and the yosh exhaust for his 1100 and decide to list what was left for $200. He also told me that he was told the internals were all yoshimura. Now, I put this little bit of info in the back of my head ( who would sell a yosh equipped motor for $200? Right) and went on to stripping the bike down for the parts that I needed. Once I had the parts I needed I figured I would crack the motor. Did a compression test, all was good,
but I got a sickly grinding sound from the bottom end when I tried to use the electric starter ( most likely in the starter assembly itself, she is smooth as butter with the kickstart) I figured, what the hell, top end is good, at the very least I'll pull it and shelve it for another build, and then I can dig into the bottom end and find the issue.
what I found amazed me. Ported and polished head, Yoshimura cams, and what appears to be a yoshimura 845cc kit (stock 850 pistons are a very close match to the bore size.) I've tracked the noise down to either a missing thrust washer on the starter reduction gear or the starter itself, either way it's minor.
i can't really find much info on these yoshi components anywhere. I was hoping someone could fill me in, or point me in the right direction
