A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am going to be taking off my LH Engine Case Cover from my 79 550 to do some work behind there, and I want to replace my screws with Hex head Bolts. Anyone know what size I should get? Bike Bandit says there are three different sizes on that Case Cover. 2 screws @ 6X45, 1 screw @ 6X35, and 6 screws @ (Blank). I have no idea what size these six screws are. In fact I have no idea what 6X45 or 6X35 are. Is this 6mm X 35mm? if I go to a place like fastenal, will they know what to give me for these? Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you don't have a size a fastener store won't be any help. I don't know about the 550, but the larger bikes have a bunch of 20 and 25mms. If you pull them out one at a time you can measure them and put together a list to buy. Remember the head of the fastener is not a part of the length measurement. Ray

I got a whole kit for my GS750 from Z1enterprises. Check it out....

I have about half of them installed. Really cleans it up. The microfice is great if you forget which bolt goes where.

If you don't want to take the cover off before you get the proper screws just remove one of the unknown length screws, measure it, then put it back in. Make sure you have an impact driver to remove them before you totally ruin the heads. I think they made them from old cheese or something similiar.

Thanks all for your help! I used one of your links and found the right screw. Now if I can find out where Fastenal moved to! Ugh! Appreciate the help guys!
