    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Secondary Drive Question ?

Hello All, I just changed my secondary drive oil and to my disapointment I found what appears to be a gear tooth come floating out. There was a little bit of metal on the magnet drain plug. So how screwed am I ? The oil looks like it could have been from the factory. When driving it seemed to be fine but I do hear a metalic type hum noise when idiling coming from the drive
cover area. Any suggestions on what I can use to flush out case to see if there is any other stuff in there. Can I take it apart without pulling the motor from the frame? It looks it may have been pulled before as it has permatex type gasket that was squeezed out instead a paper gasket. Of course I don't know which gear the tooth came from the drive shaft or secondary. Has anybody been down this road? As always thanks for any reply...

I should have said it's an 82 GS1100gk and I haven't had a drink in 15 years should I start to drink heavy.

According to the manual (available for download from BassCliff's site in case you didn't know), the secondary drive gear assembly can be removed by unbolting from the engine. My guess is that you would have to pull the swingarm to gain access. Assuming this is all that needs to be done, I'd go ahead and remove it and have a look inside. If one of the bevel gear teeth is broken, I'd want to know sooner rather than later.

If you've got a tooth on the slump plug then its safer to check than ride and hope.

I have the Clymer manual and it says to pull the motor, but It's in the clear nothing in the way, I can get right at it. I'm just a little nervous due to all the talk about the gear fitting together has to be right on the money.
Ty for your reply Nessism, I guess I'm hoping someone has done this before and could give me a heads up. I have been to BassCliffs site ,its got a manual for a 1000 which I think is close to mine.
