    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Shaking handlebar when braking

When applying brakes to slow down a bit, all seems fine, no shaking/vibrating.
I only noticed this when having to break a bit harder than normal. Usually just before the bike comes to a complete standstill.

I'm not sure where to start looking (and did not get a chance when I got home last night...had to jump into the 4 wheeled cage with the fiance to meet people...)

My first though is disc and pads. Although over the weekend when checking oil, I did look at the discs and they looked fine - no scratches etc as in worn pads. Did not check the pads and will do that this weekend.

Did not notice any warping of the disc - suppose not seeing it by eye does not been it's not there, but thought the same vibrating will happen with any braking.

Could it be the bearings from the steering?

Any suggestions where to start and what to look for will be appreciated.
And I apologize in advance if I ask stupid questions...still learning where everything sits and what things are called.
(In local skydiving terms I'll be called a whaffo...what's that for, what's that for??... :o)

check your steering head bearings first, sounds like there could be a bit of play there. also check your front wheel bearings for play. just to be on the safe side, also check all bolts,nuts and fixings are tight on the front end
 
FWIW, check the front tire for scalloped sides. I had a similar problem with a GS1150ES I had few yrs back. Everything else checked out fine.

Steering head bearings (beat me to it ;) ) Tires can contribute to a decel wobble, but seem to amplify loose or worn steering head bearings. IMHO

What Bike?? Sliding head calipers may be in need of thorough cleaning and some lube. Brake fluid flush and change?? dirty fluid may be clooging the return port, when you check the front end bearing also do the rear; swingarm and wheel, as some rear end symptoms may appear to come from the front.

I'd say your front end wobble is just about covered; worn steering bearings, worn wheel bearings, worn tires, worn brake components, maybe even misaligned forks? Check them all and let us know.
