    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 77 GS750 - shift rod appears to be bent.

Can I remove the entire assembly by removing the oil seal on the left side?
Is there any problem re-installing everything or do I have to remove the entire clutch to re install?
 
i've got an '80 750 it's the tscc engine i had to pull clutch , shifter rod comes out right side, clutch needs to come out so you can realign shifter teeth so it goes thru all gears, be sure it shifts smoothly ..before putting back together
 
No. It's like 'bagger' says it comes out on the right side. Removing the seal will not help.
 
yeah just looked at my clymers has '77 in it also shift rod is identical, if you don't pull clutch you can't center shifter rod teeth on the shifter, then bike won't shift thru all gears just pulled mine yesterday to replace shifter seal, hardest part is holding clutch sleeve hub while removing center nut and retorquing it, don't over torque pressure plate bolts " 8 #'s " or you'll break one..i did

I concur! [-o< Major pain to get this nut loose/tight.

As a side note to 81gs750bagger - Dude! there's this thing called punctuation. \\:D/ Please use it so people like me can snip out quote nuggets like above without hacking your prose all to heck. :-D
 
if the shift shaft is bent.. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT try to remove it the "normal" way. Cut off the shift mechinism inside the right side engine case, then pull the shaft out the left side of the motor.

I've tried the other way. I almost broke the motor.
 
Thanks, I'm taking the clutch out (again) tomorrow.

Bad news, read my post "can it get worse???" for a bigger problem
