DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Dunno what the policy is in the forum for making a thread sticky, but a really helpful one would be a shim swap thread.

It would sure help out us 8v guys, anyway.

The idea is to post if you have shims you're not using, or post if you need a particular size.

They're easy to send - tape it to a piece of cardboard and put it in a regular envelope with double postage.

To start it off, I've got a 2.95 I don't need.

?

?

Ive built a a supply by sucking up to the wreckers/breakers and buying them there. But your idea seems great.

yes its definetely a good idea. once i do valve clearance check on both of my motors, im sure ill def need some different shim sizes for the beasts. ill be looking back at this thread hoping it went somewhere.

I have another thread going on this, but I have (3) 2.65X mm shims and one unmarked (estimated at 2.65) to trade off for (2) 2.55 and (2) 2.60 shims...and (1) 2.50 just in case...anyone interested?

All of mine are thicker than that, but I'll keep you in mind for the next time.

I will say this is a great idea. I needed this thread three weeks ago. :-D

REVIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

i need (1) 2.55 and (1) 2.60 and i have (2) 2.65. anyone?

nevermind. just checked again and i can just swap two around.\\:D/ thanks anyway though.

Venture to say that a lot of us have 2.65 shims now sitting around and the demand is for 2.60's, as indicated by Z1enterprises being out of stock and the 2.55's(I needed 4 of them).
Any thoughts on buffing (read as careful grinding) 2.65's down? and yes I would do it on the label side as to not mislead some future owner later.
Would now require a micrometer, time, cursing, etc...oh just forget it!
$4.75/ea at Z1 is the way to go when they have them!

2.55 shims are back in stock at Z1 btw. Dunno if the 260s are.

I heard a rumor some time ago about starting a shim pool. I know someone that is going to donate a Z1 shim kit to kick it off when we get done putting his engine back together.

What does anyone think of exchanging shims with the kit, and also tossing in a buck a shim to help build the stock supply? :-s
More of the thinner shims could be purchased so they would be readily available. Of course, any other donations of cash or shims would be accepted, too.

Not sure, but I think he was going to have me take care of the process, so I will have to let everyone know when the exchange is up and running. 8-[

I am down for donating shims, i have about 15 or so, and/or $$ to the cause! Let me know!

That's very noble of you Steve.
Do you have a micrometer? I wouldn't want you to get caught in the middle if used shims might not match the stamped value. And what about the unmarked ones that we may have that could still be useful for someone else?
And yes I would send my extra 2.65 and 2.65x's off to someone in need.

Not quite a micrometer, but I do have digital calipers. All shims would be verified and the number would be clearly visible.

Not sure yet if I am to be the custodian of the 'stash', and have not yet worked out any logistics, so if anyone has any suggestions, I will gladly listen. 8-[

To Steve and All...

I can think of nobody better suited to be the "'custodian'" of these shims!
This is something discussed with Steve that I feel is the least I can do for the board for all the info and help with this silly 850 I purchased. Steve has shared much time and effort towards getting this hunk running.
We have a ways to go but hopefully it will be running like new very soon.

Steve, I will be contacting you shortly upon ordering required gaskets and other goodies. To the board, consider this shim kit yours (as soon as we're done with it!).

aren't you all lucky speaking about shims 265 and the like... i'm down to 225 !

Any thoughts on this? Is it something we're gonna do?
Of course, Steve you'll be appointed the "Master Keeper of the Shims":)!
...or would this put the shim merchants out of business?
